mine says: ...has arrived in LOS ANGELES USA and is being processed for delivery

Id say that at least lets me know something.  +1 on the tracking.

Re: Got my new E3D All-Metal Hotend V4 - (Updated with Mounted Pics)

Bit the bullet and ordered an E3D tonight. Are there any updates to the Firmware needed to set the extruder at the higher temps needed for say polycarbonate?  For example is the a max temp limit setting that needs to be changed somewhere. Sorry if this has already been covered. I tried searching but couldn't find the answer.....

Re: Got my new E3D All-Metal Hotend V4 - (Updated with Mounted Pics)

Should be two changes:

Change thermistor to 1 on line 91:

#define TEMP_SENSOR_0 1

Change max temp to something scary on 112:

#define HEATER_0_MAXTEMP 310

Both changes in configuration.h.

Thanks!!   Just need to do my time waiting for the hot end now.

Re: Got my new E3D All-Metal Hotend V4 - (Updated with Mounted Pics)

I was going to post some build instructions, but I don't think I can do any better than Sanjay has already provided at http://www.scribd.com/doc/149560103/E3D … bly-Manual

Lawsy's new Mk5 also works brilliantly... so be sure to print http://www.soliforum.com/topic/3016/mk5 … -improved/ before pulling your hotend apart smile smile

Keen to hear what all of your impressions of the V5 are!

Re: Got my new E3D All-Metal Hotend V4 - (Updated with Mounted Pics)

I need to pick up some heat resistant glass as my qb-bd shattered my last bit, then i'll get the mk 5 printed (thanks lawsy) mines arrived and my boden dispatched so hope to get that tomorrow. Just need to adjust the mk 5 to wrap round so i can move the stepper and install the bowden

Re: Got my new E3D All-Metal Hotend V4 - (Updated with Mounted Pics)

Okay, I'm in.  Ordered my E3D hotend today and printing out the MK5 tomorrow ...

My E3D finally showed up.  To my surprise it was blue, not red as in the picture (not that I care)

Good to hear you guys have your parts in hand!

I look forward to seeing what you guys can do with them on your SDs!

Yeah we changed to blue as we wanted a fast and easy way to tell exactly which version people are running, and from which batch. This should help us track down potential problems.
We have also just acquired some thermochromic ABS (Changes colour with heat) - the idea here is to be able to visually show if heat is creeping up the heatsink if their air-cooling isn't working properly. We need to do a bit more testing to see if the colour change properties suit our needs yet. It's also just really cool to have colour-changing prints!

adrian - Where did you wire in the E3D fan?

Re: Got my new E3D All-Metal Hotend V4 - (Updated with Mounted Pics)

I think my fan duct warped slightly during print because it's pretty loose and the fan is quite loud, but if I pinch the duct its much quieter. I guess my first print will be a replacement.

Re: Got my new E3D All-Metal Hotend V4 - (Updated with Mounted Pics)

Make sure you don't bolt the fan on tight.. Just seated was good for me but not tight. toot tight and the screws protrude on the inside causing it to stress the sidewalls outwards.... but spares are handy, just print the v4.1 one and not the v4 one smile (less inner grooves on the newer ones...)

I just ran another pair of wires through the harness and patched straight into my 12v supply

Re: Got my new E3D All-Metal Hotend V4 - (Updated with Mounted Pics)

Ah, thanks. That was what was causing the fan to be so loud, but the duct was loose when I first fitted it. Still loose, but at least now the fan is bearable smile

That's what I figured since you mentioned there were some changes on this batch.

The thermochromic ABS sounds fun.

Re: Got my new E3D All-Metal Hotend V4 - (Updated with Mounted Pics)

Lost a lot more Z height than I had anticipated. I already had an extra low Z-screw to accommodate my 3/16" glass. I had to replace the stock screw with a 25mm and screw an old mount onto the bottom just to get the E3D printing lol.

Re: Got my new E3D All-Metal Hotend V4 - (Updated with Mounted Pics)

Yup,  it's 16mm longer... Discussed that back on first page. To reclaim it, you can print a plate to sit under the stepper motor and lift the whole extruder 16mm...

I also just used a motherboard standoff to add height to the Z - screw...

Re: Got my new E3D All-Metal Hotend V4 - (Updated with Mounted Pics)

So I got my e3d and bowden setup today! smile Excited.

Out of curiosity, how did you feel about the small Alu block for the hot end?  Do you think it makes sense because PID control is very reliable? I was concerned about the lack of thermal mass.

94

Re: Got my new E3D All-Metal Hotend V4 - (Updated with Mounted Pics)

I think if you have too much thermal mass you will also need more wattage to bring up the temperature quickly when filament demand goes from zero to max.

95

Re: Got my new E3D All-Metal Hotend V4 - (Updated with Mounted Pics)

Got my two the other day. I'm most of the way through wiring up my JST plugs and the like. Went all out with fire cement for the thermistor so I have to wait 48 hours for that to set.

One annoying thing is the printed part having the holes slightly too wide for the fan, so as you tighten the screws, it flexes the shroud wider so it no longer fits snug on the heat sink.

96

Re: Got my new E3D All-Metal Hotend V4 - (Updated with Mounted Pics)

I only used 2 of the 4 screws one in top right and one in lower left still fits snug this way and I doubt it needs all 4... less inertial mass this way smile

Re: Got my new E3D All-Metal Hotend V4 - (Updated with Mounted Pics)

I can't leave it at that. Here is a new fan for the heat-sink. The original hardware should just work for these. It might be a close fit for you if you find any extra screw length.
Here is my fixed version.

The holes were 1mm too far apart in 1 direction so I brought them closer together. I also added 1.5mm to the base so that I could get the screws out of the heat-sink area. It looked like they were going to interfere. I assume, that is why the dimensions were off to begin with.

This was edited from the original STL so my sketchup model is hard to edit but feel free to try. This took an hour to clean up before I could even alter it.

EDIT: Just tested it out. It works great! The stock screws should be perfect

Re: Got my new E3D All-Metal Hotend V4 - (Updated with Mounted Pics)

Hi All,

Looks like you guys are really getting along well with the hotends!

The fan ducts are a bit sub-par in recent weeks. It's due to demand recently. We've purchased more printers in the meantime to help with speed/load/quality trade-offs and are looking to go to an injection moulded duct eventually. I hope everyone is managing to get along just fine or print a replacement. PLA really is a fine material for the duct in case anyone is concerned about heat. The part that the duct clips to should never really get hot at all unless you are printing at well over 250C.

As always, if you really are stuggling with a bad part from us just get in touch via the feedback form on our site and we can get you a replacement ASAP.

Really nice looking tweaks/mods there. I haven't had a chance to test it myself, but if you wouldn't mind us using your tweaked design we might switch to it entirely if it's good. Will get you something cool posted to you if your work turns out to be helpful us and you agree to us using it.

Cheers,
Sanjay

Sanjay any chance of getting a preview of the multi extruder?  I am working on a design for a delta 3d printer and want to go triple extruder on it.
