Re: Got my new E3D All-Metal Hotend V4 - (Updated with Mounted Pics)

My E3D came today.  Where have others wired the fan?

Re: Got my new E3D All-Metal Hotend V4 - (Updated with Mounted Pics)

I have a separate power supply. I am curios as well. I only had time to hook mine up and heat it up quick. How do you adjust the max hot end setpoint.

Also this thing is awesome!!!!!!

I also just hooked mine up today. Haven't had a chance to use it yet.

Running my first print. I seem to be over extruding.

Re: Got my new E3D All-Metal Hotend V4 - (Updated with Mounted Pics)

Making an extended z stop as we speak. I'll post up when I test it out.

Re: Got my new E3D All-Metal Hotend V4 - (Updated with Mounted Pics)

http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:90326 Works fine with the Alu bed and includes the sketchup if you wanted to drop the bed further - but that with a standard M3 screw and a single motherboard standoff attached underneath more than does the work for me..

Maybe we can drop support-ish type questions into a separate thread... it becomes a bit difficult to read when theres tons of single-line posts about progress...

As mentioned a few times in the thread already - most have either spliced it into the existing extruder fan power wires, or just ran a new set all the way through back to the 12v power supply.

Could piggyback on the heater power too. smile

The PWM on that pair combined with the PID control makes it a little unpredictable though - but doable for sure wink

Re: Got my new E3D All-Metal Hotend V4 - (Updated with Mounted Pics)

The way I see it, less heater power = less need for the fan!

Here is the extended Z stop I made. Works well with the E3D.

Hello,

Is it possible to buy a part kit? I'm only after the insulator barrel fan and nozzle.
Not the heater cartridge block or thermistor as I've already been developing my own versions of this part.

If this is available, what sort of price would it be (uk delivery).

You can order the parts on their site:

Re: Got my new E3D All-Metal Hotend V4 - (Updated with Mounted Pics)

I was wondering if there was a better option available.

to buy a kit.
Aluminium heatsink, stainless steel heat break, Brass nozzle (0.4mm), heater block, 100K ohm NTC thermistor, 12v 40W ceramic cartridge heater, 30mm axial fan, Fan housing (printed ABS), 150mm high temp thermocouple wire, two 0.75mm Uninsulated Ferrules, Kapton tape, and a fixing kit.

costs £39

to buy in spares...

costs £52.45

(no ferrules, no kapton tape for fixing, no thermocouple wires (silicon instead). but  higher price)

to buy the bits that I want to buy.

heat break
nozzle
fan
heatsink

costs £30.45 which seems a little high.

to put it another way.
I want £22 worth of parts removed from a £39 kit. I'm not expecting the kit to come down by a full £22, but I guess I was expecting it to come down by a little more than £8!

Additionally, Sanjay already said that he was offering discounts for developers, I'm asking if having developed your own heat block (where designs are shared on this forum) qualifies you as a developer (worthy of discount) or not.

Re: Got my new E3D All-Metal Hotend V4 - (Updated with Mounted Pics)

I started printing with 618 last night. I started to get some filament jams. I was able to stop the print and pull the nylon and easily extrude out the nozzle by hand. I think its related to the MK 5 on my machine being to close to the cartridge. I cant seat my e3d in all of the way causing my filament to be at a high angle.

Re: Got my new E3D All-Metal Hotend V4 - (Updated with Mounted Pics)

sweet just got my E3D in the mail today! man this a particularly beautiful piece of engineering! very pleased to own one! i wonder if there is a way to get it to work with the original acrylic jigsaw... that would be neato!

what are these Ferrules?  they are the 2 small metal pieces in the bag with the green wire. they arent included in the instructions..

143

Re: Got my new E3D All-Metal Hotend V4 - (Updated with Mounted Pics)

The ferrules are in the instructions, step 4 & 6:
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B6KAo0X … l0aVk/edit

4) Spread the legs of the thermistor slightly, just enough  that they aren’t  touching, take the two bootlace ferrules and slide onto the thermistor legs with the funnelled mouth  facing away from the glass bead.
...
6) Using pliers or a proper crimping tool if you have one crush  the ferrule tube  tightly around the wire hooks to form a  strong joint that is  also heat-proof.

Re: Got my new E3D All-Metal Hotend V4 - (Updated with Mounted Pics)

For everybody getting an E3D you might want to order some extra heater cartridges (certainly if you live outside the UK).  Mine failed after 20 hours of use.  Not a major problem for me except that it takes two weeks to get a replacement since its coming from the UK.

*shipping ended up taking 6 days from when I got the dispatch email.

I agree always a good idea to have spares - of ANY 3D printing component smile

But.. I've put over 100+ hours on mine, and not a single issue.  So whilst you may have had a failure - theres certainly no indication of anything other than a single instance failure of your own heater cartridge... Not sure it warrants the 'warning' to *all* E3D Users...

One failure, in a batch of how many hundreds.... Just saying, I dont think its worthy of a headline on CNN, or a full recall, or anything smile Stuff breaks, and it by no means indicates a repetitive issue ..

I just want people to be aware. If anything I just gave E3D more business.  I understand that things break.

I edited the post to make it sound more friendly...

Re: Got my new E3D All-Metal Hotend V4 - (Updated with Mounted Pics)

After about 40 hrs (and 1.5kg) I got my first serious clog. I used a .3mm drill bit and a .4mm drill bit and fiddled around at 250(C). I was worried at first nothing would break free. Eventually whatever caused the clog broke loose, and then the filament went freely.

I have every reason to believe this was some particle in my filament (10lbs of cheap black filament.)  Notable, at 250C the ABS did loose the hallmark perfect-pullout melting figure of the e3d. Instead, it pulled out with a bit of a string. Perhaps the heat creep was enough to soften the abs a bit at 250C past the thermal break.  I assume with higher melting temp plastics they also soften at a higher melting point, so this wouldn't necessarily occur or be devastating. Also, the filament sat at 250C for a good five minutes, so it's not exactly the same as running *through* the hot end at 250C

Yes. Shipping for my E3D was surprisingly fast for a 4 week pre order!!

Let me know when you break out that .25 nozzle. I have one laying around I have yet to try.

Also does anyone else's fan make a lot of noise from being loose fitting?
