Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

The bearing I got from Amazon and the M3 / M4 screws I got from the local Home Depot. Ideally you could get everything from Amazon.

SD Press - v1 (Pre-order) / RAMPs /w DRV8825's / Cyclops (25w) / Dual Bowden / Mk8 Gear / MK2b PCB Heat bed /w custom replacement Z / PEI Bed
SD2 / E3D v6 / Direct Drive / Mk8 Gear / RAMBo v1.3 / PEI Bed / Anti Z backlash mod / Ikea Expedite enclosure.
Both Driven by Octoprint (devel) via a RPi B+ / Neopixel status alerts / GPIO Controlled SSR / (SD2) 450 Watt PSU for remote power-up/shutdown.

Yes, there will be a kit. Just waiting for MacGyverX to finalize things.

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

The bowden setup is pretty much done. I used about a spool running it. The latest ver. has a tweak in the bowden extruder for better spacing between the chassis and the lever.

For the non-bowden, I need to get the height right for the z-endtop 'booster seat' otherwise that design is done also.

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

Have you found an improvement in quality between the bowden and direct drive setup? I'm honestly okay with either setup but I feel like the direct drive may be a better option as I would rather not make any damaging modifications to my printer like drilling holes and such.

"E3D_v6_Press_Mount" is giving a manifold error in RH.

What spring did you use specifically?

Why did you use the Amazon PTC fittings instead of the included PTC fitting?

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

Really? I used RH to reposition the STL and resave late last night.
I just reopened all the STL's again, they all opened and sliced correctly.

Maybe cause I am using an older ver. of RH? I'll change the orientation in fusion is and upload those.

k. done. Did anyone else having any issues? (I tested everything before I uploaded anything. The hope was to make it easy and smooth process.)

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

I'm not familiar with using github, but "save as" on the stl file did NOT download the stl.  You get like a 27Kb file.  I had to get the Github for windows software.  Once I got those, modeled seemed fine and I printed them all off this morning.  I found an 11mm spring that's a little too big.  I think a 10mm would be perfect.  I just need to source my screws.   I'm also curious between the print quality of the bowden vs direct.

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

Ah. I used github as it easier/faster to make updates. The other option would had been to download the zip. (via github)

At any rate > http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:688682 for the folks who fell more comforable with that platform.

As for the print quality there are virtually the same. The only difference was noticeable was a cooling fan.

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

github is awesome. I was pleasantly surprised when you used it. Folks probably don't realize you have to right click save as on RAW to get the actual file.

What spring did you use? The spring coefficient and length are probably important.

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

Watching your video of printing, I see you have the Press moving very fast... what speeds do you use for moves/printing?  Were you able to run that fast with the stock hotend, or is that a result of the e3d upgrade?

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

elmoret- The spring I used came from a 5$ variety pack from Home Depot. I'll yank it out and measure it later.

Dream-Cypher- After shedding the weight of the stepper on the gantry, I changed some of the accel. values in the firmware. That includes bed leveling (aka z-offset). As for the Z "Fast and Furious" mode- you can change that now.

Just do a M203 X500.00 Y500.00 Z55.00 E3.00 (The Z value before is 5.00) Then do a M500.

The only thing I did was make that change in the FW so I didn't have to reapply that every time (which really on applies if you reflash alot- And I have). Now. Set that with caution. Although *I* have not had any issues with it running that way, I am not responsable if it does eff' anything up.

This is kinda the main reason why I did not release what's running on my Press. I don't want to get angry email from someone telling me their steppers caught on fire (unlikely but I don't want to take that chance.) But that was a risk *I* was willing to take.

As you can see, I've changed a crap lot of stuff on my press so I figured what the hell. Let see if it can handle it.

Sorry for disclaimer mode. I've already gotten a strange msg about if I provided a warranty if they screw up.

I didn't have any problem printing them, but I used Soliprint.

What PTC fittings did you use?

Edit: Ah completely missed it.  Thanks!

Why again 5/32 tube for the Bowden setup versus 1/8?

It was cheap. I found it quickly. It arrived the next day. You can use whatever you what that fits.

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

oh ok, i just wasnt sure if the 1.75mm filament needed to have a certain "space" within the tube to move freely and not get messed up. 1/8th is just much more common of a fitting at my local NAPA store's selection of truck air brake fittings.

now that i type this out 1/8th (.0625) may be too small for the PTC fittings because i believe that they measure those on the OD.  so if 1.75 (.0689) is needed for the filament the fit may be too tight in the end.

As for the prints Bowden vs. Non-Bowden. Here are some pictures.

so, im confused.  because im pulling off of github and the bowden folder, and im printing what you are showing in black to be the non-bowden version.

I am talking about print quality. The yellow part was printed with the bowden setup, The black part was printed with the non-bowden setup.
