is this connector needed for the swap as well?

Yeah. I got them from RadioShack (Rest In Peace) for something else earlier last year. Thanks for catching that. I need to update my BOM.

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

My local shacks haven't closed yet. I'll have to head down over the weekend and see what I can find.

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

Man...$11 shipping for $0.34 worth of parts.

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

You could just reuse the connector from Solidoodle's heater, cut and splice.

Bowden setup:
x2 M4 Screws @ 30mm - 2x M4 Nuts - 4x M3 Screws @ 30mm - x1 608ZZ bearing - x1 Spring (anything about 11mm in diameter) x2 Push-to-Connect Fitting (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PN5G2NQ/)

Non-Bowden Setup:
3x M3 Screws @ 30mm - 1x 608ZZ Bearing - 1x Spring (see above)
I use a short piece of PTFE tubing that have a "V" shape at the top .

But please wait before you purchase anything. I want to run both of these thru their paces before I release all this stuff.
If you're dead set on doing this mod. Minimal you'll need to get the hotend and the heater cart.

Looks great! What are the ideal specs for the push fitting? 5/16" with 1/8", 1/4" or 3/8"?

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

fittings need to have 1/8th male NPT on one side and then 5/32 on the tubing side.  it seems as if you COULD use 1/8th inch as well on the tubing side but its a much tighter fit then the 5/32 is, with 1.75mm filament.  i have both setups here at the moment and i am going to try the 1/8th inch setup first when i get the E3Dv6 this week and report back.

134

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

MacGyverX, how far down does the teflon tubing extend into the 'bay' of the printer, all the way up right until the top of the hotend?

also, im just making sure i get the right hardware here hopefully tomorrow.  the M3 bolts (4) are for mounting the stepper to the bearing body?  and the M4 bolts (2) and nuts (2) are for mounting the bearing body to the lower curved part? did you also drill the stock filament holder walls and attach the bowden setup that way?  what bolts will be needed to mount the E3Dv6 to the 3d printer adapter carriage?

Does anyone know the OD (Outer Diameter) of Fliastruder's 2mm PEEK tubing in the E3D v6 kit?   That might make answering the 5/32"s vs 1/8" question easier.

I'm ready to pull the trigger on the E3D v6 for the Press, but I want to make sure I get everything I need.  I've read MacGuyverX's post above about what is needed, but Elmoret/Filastruder's kit has some fittings in it already and just don't want to misunderstand what is necessary in addition to the E3D v6 kit so I don't double-order stuff.

136

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

4mm, I emailed and asked last night. Which means you'd need to go with 5/32 tubing and fittings.

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

The w/Bowden extras comes with a connector. You really only need one.

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

any luck ill be up and running tomorrow evening.  got all the screws i believe i need today and a spring at the local True Value.

does the hotend kit come with the required hardware to mount it to the adapter bracket that i printed?

Thanks, Elmoret. Does that mean I really only need to order an extra one or simply that the one included in the "Bowden extras" kit is the only one I need?

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

I didn't use the one that came with the E3D kit. The hotend itself (on the universal kit /w extra) accepted the PTFE tube directly. The two additional ones for for the bowden stepper mount. I was going to use the E3D provided one for the hole in the top lid of the press, but then the lid would not close. Cutting it would not leave enough tread for a retaining nut to 'grab' on too. Plus it locks in one direction (as all PTC connectors do) so flipping it around would not work either.

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

pretty much ready to go for tomorrows hotend arrival, will post some more pics when its all done.  i got 30mm M3 screws this afternoon but they actually seem to be too long, will be getting shorter ones tomorrow along with 2 more M4 bolts that seem to be needed to hold the printed hotend adapter to the carriage.

MacGyverX, how did you run the telfon tube from the outside of the machine to the inside? just curious.

Hah. I forgot to print that spool holder before taking everything apart, damn. I'll have to make a makeshift one to get everything running and able to print one out.

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

As an FYI the stepper wiring is long enough to go above the lid and still reach the stepper. The hole was to make the install cleaner.
