Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press
do you happen to know what the stock speed for the extruder was....mm/s? And what did you set it to with the new extruder?

Going to sound crazy, But I didn't change it. Left it stock.
wow it seemed fast as hell in those videos you posted I'm surprised
Wait are talking about the X/Y/Z steppers? Or the extruder stepper? The Extruder stepper has not been changed from stock. X/Y/Z feedrates I changed in the FW. But that's separate from from the E3D upgrade. The HEX/INO I posted on github only has what it needs to get the mod working. The faster gantry was tweaks I did but not really required as I don't know what the long term effects of running everything that fast. Which is a risk I was willing to take. Didn't want to put in untested (as Press is a new device) feedrates in that may cause damage in the long run.
ah ok, ill just have to play around with the X/Y/Z steppers in the Simplify3D software when i get this all done and see how it goes.
I really want to do this mod once my printer is able to print.
The technical/mechanical aspect of putting all the hardware together doesn't phase me but I'm wondering about making the adjustments to the firmware to make it work?
I have read the links provided in this thread and they are a little confusing, but I am very good at following simple instructions, does any one know of a simple step by step guide on the net (click here, change this, type this) type thing to help get this done?
I really want this mod but don't want modding the firmware be the thing to stop me, just need something in layman's terms.
Many Thanks

Thanks MacGyver, I did see that and it made me say "huh" but I dont want that to stop the upgrade. I'll read again and see if it makes any more sense to me.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't need a ISP to upload the firmware, right?
Nope. The ISP method is what I used.
If you read the first link it shows how to do without a ISP.
I got the rest of my parts today! I hope to have it built sometime Saturday. I'll let you all know how it goes!

So adding the E3D requires an Arduino?
No, you just use the Arduino software to update the firmware.
so, major issue. couldnt get the E3Dv6 to slide into the adapter that i printed, filed, dremeled, even sprayed a bit of wd-40 on there to get it to slide on....no go. Press is all wired up for the new heater cartridge and thermistor so i cant put it back together just to re print this. needless to say, im not too happy.
Looks like it printed too small. If you look below it's an exact fit (just 0.025mm under). So you should not to have to force it in as you described. My slotted in with no issues. And you have the correct version of the mount (that 'halo'ed ring on the top is a watermark so to speak. I did that on the parts I released on github and thingiverse to 1. know that its my part that I made. 2. So I know what ver it is if some does what you did and take a picture of it.)
If you do have the heater cart. and the thermistor installed, Reassembled the Press stock hotend with the E3D parts then print out another one. But you may want to make sure your machine is printing out stuff at the correct size.
You may want to do this > http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:52946
Maybe just glue then more dremel and whatever you need to do to get it working enough with the E3D so that you can print out another one. It looks like you might need to adjust the stepper motor reference voltages, looking at the unevenness of the print.
I will reassemble as you said and try again.
I would have to guess that maybe that one print was am issue. It was one of the first things I've ever printed and I was playing with some settings simplify 3d. The thing is the Bowden carriage printed just fine. As did a foregrip I did for my buddies .22 fit like a glove.
Any chance you can either email me or just tell me some of the dimensions for this thing?...really just need the proper bolt hole spacing seeing as how this printed incorrectly I don't want to go off of that. I'm not going to be able to take the bowden assembly apart then assemble the stock setup tonight and I just want this to work here. So if I have the needed dimensions I'll machine one at work tomorrow on the CNC mill and just be one my way.
I'll do you one better.

I plan on doing the same. Just waiting for a couple blocks of 6061 to mill one out.
Thank you. I very much appreciate it.
Yeah, mine is tight too. I'll have to look into adjusting it for my printer. Everything else fits well though!
I think its just a matter of flow rate. I'm thinking I may need to up my infill, lower my extrusion multiplier, and slow down the print for better bonding/better tolerances. Still, loving this mod!
So, going to put back together the factory setup to try and reprint the adapter here. Is there any trick to getting the spring for the tensioner roller that holds the filament to the grub wheel back in place? It seems like its all lined up right but I recall it having more tension then it has right Noe.
back together, and now more issues.
first off, bed will not heat up. this wasnt an issue whatsoever prior to tear down and attempting to install the new extruder.
secondly, extruder temp says that its at 357c, and i just turned the machine on. advice on where to go from here, please and thank you.
edit: thirdly, also just noticed that the machine will Home All, but after that i have no manual jog control over any axis.
Did you update the firmware on the press? I assumed you've completed that step when you said you installed the E3D components.
If not, Whats why the temps are off.
