Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

Slightly slower heatup, maybe 10 seconds. Limited to 300C, but that's all you can do anyway without a thermocouple upgrade.

Non-Bowden Version (Very WIP). Measuring up the probe now to extend it.

jonzerb. I got 0.6" and used 1mm spacers to move up the aluminium plate up. If you can find 0.7" That will fit without the mod.

Are you using 0.6" or 0.06" because the Amazon link that was provided only offers 0.06"

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

daphur, Yeah that's a typo 0.06" is correct.

Sorry for the long hiatus. An immediate family member passed from a car accident.
I'll be driving back home Thursday night. I just have one more reprint to make to get
the probe mount right. Then I'll push everything to github.

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

Sorry to hear that MacGyverX.

80

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

My deepest condolences

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

Very sorry to hear that.

The washer went under the aluminum plate to raise it so the two 'guides' would slightly touch the PEI sheet. This is done so the sheet would not slide out without mild force. Otherwise it would slide around while the print was happening.

just to let you, and others, know since i didnt have any .1mm thick spacers i ended up taking the bed of and completely doing away with the stock spacers and used 6mm nuts as the spacers and that gave me pretty much the perfect height for the .0625 thick PEI to engage the hold down guides nice and snuggly.

sorry to hear about the loss within the family

Bowden setup:
x2 M4 Screws @ 30mm - 2x M4 Nuts - 4x M3 Screws @ 30mm - x1 608ZZ bearing - x1 Spring (anything about 11mm in diameter) x2 Push-to-Connect Fitting (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PN5G2NQ/)

Non-Bowden Setup:
3x M3 Screws @ 30mm - 1x 608ZZ Bearing - 1x Spring (see above)
I use a short piece of PTFE tubing that have a "V" shape at the top .

But please wait before you purchase anything. I want to run both of these thru their paces before I release all this stuff.
If you're dead set on doing this mod. Minimal you'll need to get the hotend and the heater cart.

hot end and heater en route, im stoked about adding this to my Press.  Going to go the bowden route, it says above M4 screws x2 @ 30mm then x4 @30mm....so i assume to do this entire job ill need to grab 6, looks like socket headed cap screws, in M4 pitch @ 30mm length?

also, just curious as to why you use 5/32's push to connect fittings and tubing for 1.75mm filament when you could go smaller and use 1/8th fittings and tubing?

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

I am going to order an E3D today I think, and give the Bowden version a try. Hopefully MacGyverX is able to post the STL files soon. big_smile

The Bowden STLs are there. I need to clean up the models (mostly labeling parts) then I'll release the STEP's. I'm still working on the non-bowden version. Due to unforeseen event, It slowed my process on it. It should be done soon. Sorry for the delay on that.

there is absolutely no need to apologize for unforeseen event that took place.

downloaded bowden files and hopefully going to get some printed tonight!! thanks for the work on this, awesome stuff.

I fell bad cause I started all this and left you guys hanging. I didn't want to disappoint anyone. Especially elmoret.

I updated the repo with the STL's in the proper 'optimal' printing positions.

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

cool.  ill begin printing shortly. since im still quite new at this, would a 20% infill be sufficient for parts like these?

89

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

That's a good point.

I did them @ 0.2mm Layer height - 20% Infill - 8 Perimeters (That's optional - I just used the same profile I use to print mounts of any kind. Just my personal preference)

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

awesome, thanks.  also, seeing as how there are some holes that will be "overhangs" since the models will be printed straight up...i assume you added some support structures in whatever software you use on your personal setup to print these? or are these solid enough where supports wont be needed?

91

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

All designed to be printed as-is no supports.

Honestly you're getting more done than I'd have time for, and its much appreciated!

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

I really appreciate all of your work on this MacGyverX! You are awesome!

I have a question though. What kind of changes did you make to the firmware? Is it necessary to use the modified firmware with the E3D?

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

They thermistor type is the same. But the MAXTEMP needs to be changed.

Speaking of which, I think the next step is to add a thermocouple to mine. Heh. The Press that should have been. I need to take a picture of all the parts I've pulled out and replaced.

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

Really? Same thermistor? Solidoodle uses a Semitec 104GT-2?

Shoot me an email if you need a thermocouple.

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

Correction - The stock options was already set to "#define HEATER_0_MAXTEMP 300" But #define TEMP_SENSOR_0 1" needs to be "#define TEMP_SENSOR_0 5"

So the MAXTEMP is already set, But the TEMP_SENSOR needs to be changed. Had it backwards.

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

Oh, okay. Sounds good!

Just ordered my E3D, and am printing parts right now!

99

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

Ahhh, I am so tempted to try this out, I already have an e3d v6 on my prusa i3, its sort of collecting dust right now so I'd be so down to change it out, just not sure how I feel about this big of a change...hmmm

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

Elmoret, Will there be a "kit" available to order this upgrade?  It's hard to get simple parts around here and I can't really trust my press to print something accurately. I'd be a lot more likely to do this if I knew I had everything I needed.

just curious.  Not saying I'm sure I'd buy an upgraded extruder.. just want to know my options. smile
