Re: E3D Titan extruder

Anyone having curling issues on the back side of prints? The side where the layer fan is not? Seems it happens mostly with PLA.

I've got mine down to where I can just unscrew the two bottom screws on the Titan, and just barely untighten the top two screws.  The Stepper Motor and Titan come out as one piece, leaving the carriage in its place.

SO MUCH easier than taking the carriage off.

When I need to put it back in, the motor mount and titan just sandwich over the carriage.

5 minutes to get it off, 8 to get it back on.

I get zero warping with PLA, some with ABS if I don't use brim.

I have a few prints that have filled almost the entire print bed, and no warping.   Here is a 31 hour print with glow in the dark PLA:

I will have to try that, I really want to flip the extruder around so that the e3d faces out instead of toward the back. My new Prusa MK2 should be here on Monday, can't wait :-)

Re: E3D Titan extruder

Yeah, pla is the way to go for large prints.
To be honest, I use pla 99% of the time now.
If I use abs, I print at 240°C with the bed at 90°C and close the door and lid.

Same here!! PLA is awesome. I have a ton of XYZ ABS so I need to try and use that up.

Very nice, I will look into this.

Re: E3D Titan extruder

I did a 6 hour print with Inland Flexible Natural overnight.   I think its TPU.

Ran it nice and slow...  12mm/s max

Worked like a charm!

The combo of repetier firmware and e3d upgrades has turned the cheapest 3D printer on the market into a beast!

Re: E3D Titan extruder

I was hoping the Titan would allow flexibles to printed faster than that to be honest.
I can print TPU at 15mm/s with the stock extruder gear and a PLA idler.

Re: E3D Titan extruder

I wasn't willing to try any faster for my first print with flexies.  I'd be willing to push it for testing, but from what we've heard i doubt we'll get much over 15mm/sec.

I'm not quite sure what the problem is with faster speeds.  The design seems ideal.

Re: E3D Titan extruder

I've added a length of PTFE tubing to the back of my davinci to give the filament a smoother passage from the spool to the extruder.
Just finished a print with TPU at 20mm/s with no issues. Best I've managed so far. smile

Re: E3D Titan extruder

After making an improvement to my spool holder so the filament nows flows more smoothly, I just finished a print with TPU at 25mm/s.
I tried 30mm/s and it failed but 25mm/s is way better than I've managed with other flexi filaments.

Does anyone know how to configure the XYZ Printer to work with the new 400 stepper motor that is supplied with the TITAN Extruder?

Re: E3D Titan extruder

What gives you the idea a Titan Extruder comes with a motor?
Either way you'll need to change your steps per mm for E:

Printit Industries Model 8.10 fully enclosed CoreXY, Chamber heat
3-SD3's & a Workbench all fully enclosed, RH-Slic3r Win7pro, E3D V6, Volcano & Cyclops Hot End
SSR/500W AC Heated Glass Bed, Linear bearings on SS rods. Direct Drive Y-axis, BulldogXL
Thanks to all for your contributions

Re: E3D Titan extruder

Read through all post and i would like to know where to start with a virgin davinci with repetier to dot he titan/v6 mod as it stand currently. Is wiley's design working well yet? I printed it with a couple flaws and ended up cutting off the belt holder while not thinking of what it was for as this is where my slight printing error occurred.  I am using black ABS. I have a clone e#d v6 in front of me and a clone titan on the way(hopefully this will work out and fit as it is all I could afford.) I'm using CuraEngine as it seems to give better results for me right now and my settings for cura are attached.

The Clone V6 I ordered: http://www.ebay.com/itm/172138307610?_t … EBIDX%3AIT

Note that the v6 did NOT come with ANY PTFE tubing. Not even in the heatbreak.

why mess with a clone . If you are needing to save  $$ get a lite.

I didn't even look into the Lite 6, seems to be the way to go for now. I am such a n00b. I just figured out how to rotate the object to the correct side to print. lesson learner, Filament wasted. Print time reduced, no structure needed.

Re: E3D Titan extruder

First things First. I have wasted a lot of filament trying to print this thing, last print was almost successful and looked the best so far! but it failed due to what i think might be the servo for the extruder overheating and not pushing the filament well after a 5 hours of print. I'm using everything stock other than firmware and the fact i soldered the connector for the heating element. I saw someone add a fan to the back of the servo and said it helped them. yes i have cleaned the gears multiple times now, last time being hardly ANYTHING on the extruder gear. Ill have to try to find a fan laying around that will fit. until then im going to try this print again with structures, i put grid and lowered the fill% on those this time around. anyways I guess my question is what setting did you guys use to print this? did you use the stock extruder and hotend? I think im almost there, but i don't want to use up an entire roll of filament and not have a working carriage =[ any help appreciated. thank you again! FORGOT to mention: The extruder clicks when the print is almost done, if i push the filament it extrudes and grips better when the servo cools down.

Re: E3D Titan extruder

Thats a familiar name :-) I have not printed anything on my Da Vinci in 6 months but I was having issues with my other printer so I thought I would fire it up again.

Well its been a good 6 months since i posted here last and I am extremely happy with my Da Vinci 1.0 printer(s) fitted with the Titan Extruder.

When I change from PLA - ABS and vice versa.  I use this protocol. I use the Load/Unload function on the Repetier Firmware on the Arduino Due Board. Then once I have changed the filament, I run through at least 300mm of the new filament to make sure I have removed all residue of the previous filament.
I think in 6 months I have had one occasion when I have had to remove the Extruder and that was because a wire came detached. Replaced the Ferrule with a solder joint, job done.

any specific questions, please feel free to contact me as I don't get so much time to keep logging on.

Happy Printing

Re: E3D Titan extruder

I decided against fitting a Titan for now.
Instead, I designed my own combined extruder/E3D mount ...... http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1723817
Without wanting to blow my own trumpet, it's been working better than I expected, even with flexibles.

Yes this is the stock carriage.  You'll lose some Z height so just add an extension to the Z endstop trigger arm and call it a day.

how did you make adjustments on the Z end stop did you just move it?

Re: E3D Titan extruder

I made a part for mine that fits onto the z endstop to raise it by 3mm as I now use a 3mm sheet of aluminium on the top of the glass bed which had formed a crack.
