Hi jooshs,

I think it will stick fine to ABS, but I will give it a try later today or tonight.

Any chance to try the PVA and sticking it to ABS?

Sorry, I'll get to it soon. Just have some repairs to do first.  8-(  Hopefully later today.

OK, I have a print running now that started off with PVA as the raft and have now swapped over to ABS for the rest. ABS had no problems sticking to it, which didn't surprise me as the PVA is quite soft and very sticky feeling. If you leave a thread out in the air after a few minutes you can feel it become tacky.

This will be quite interesting to see how it turns out. I'm sure it will peel away, but if it doesn't then I can just wash it off!

Re: Australian Filament Suppliers

Hi everyone

I would like to announce that we are now carrying the new 645 nylon from Taulman3D.

This filament exhibits incredible strength and is also transparent. Now also comes on a small plastic spool to make usage much easier.

Re: Australian Filament Suppliers

Hi everyone. Been a while but wanted to let you know about some exciting new products I will be carrying in the near future.....

Soft PLA - On its way, expected in about 10 days time.

HIPS - High impact polystyrene. Should be here tomorrow. Prints at PLA temps with no smell. Good for support material as dissolves in limonene.

Soft touch PLA. Arriving around the end of the month. Lots of very nice colours. Like normal PLA but not brittle. Great for stretchlets etc.

Polycarbonate - Arriving next week some time. Printable at 240C and very clear.

Laybrick - Arriving in about 10 days. The new material from the makers of Laywood. Only small amounts will be available to start with.

Cheers
Jamie

Re: Australian Filament Suppliers

Just to let you know I now have the following in stock.

HIPS
Polycarbonate
soft PLA

Still waiting on the laybrick and colorFabb filaments.

Cheers
Jamie

Re: Australian Filament Suppliers

I just ordered one of each; cheers Jamie. The polycarb will work great with the E3D All-Metal, and the HIPS when I finish my Dual-Bowden setup. The Soft PLA I'm also keen to see just how well you can print gaskets and the like...

Re: Australian Filament Suppliers

Hi Adrian,

Thanks for your order. I'll be keen to hear you feedback good or bad on these filaments.

I think the best way to describe the soft PLA is like soft plastic, not rubber as such. It will stretch when printed thin, but looses this when the part is a little more substantial.

The PC seems promising but it looks like I need an all metal hot end to get the most out of it. 270C just isn't quite enough.

Re: Australian Filament Suppliers

Quick update. I now have a limited quantity of laybrick in stock.

Also have colorfabb's great range of  premium non brittle PLA in stock too. I believe this is some of the highest quality PLA you can get. Guaranteed not to have ball bearings inside. ....( ball bearings extra)

Re: Australian Filament Suppliers

Wish we could get some Colorfabb (3mm) state-side. That Olympic Gold is brilliant.

Didn't see Gold listed though. I'm so jealous of their prices too. Damn shipping to AU costs a small fortune.

Re: Australian Filament Suppliers

I'm having a clean out! Some quite cheap filaments going, and many of them brand new and unused, others are part rolls that were used to test. Essentially I wasn't happy for one reason or another with the product, but they are still quite usable, especially for non critical parts.

I will update this list from time to time, so check back if you are a bargain hunter.

Re: Australian Filament Suppliers

Hey everyone, thought I might put in a word about the startup little business I've copartnered.
We're Prototyp3d with the website prototyp3d.com.au. We're based in Brisbane and are currently selling 3mm PLA and ABS filament at $30/kg as well as all the bearings we've ever seen used on a reprap 3d printer.
We're currently waiting for a shipment to come in this September, but we will be selling Prusa i3 parts, kits and prebuilt printers at $700 for a kit and $900 for a prebuilt i3.
We do pickups from HSBNE on Tuesdays as well as from Albany Creek and Forest Lake.
Any questions/suggestions?

What is it with Brisvegas and surrounds and 3D suppliers wink

Say hello to Lemming (Laurence) for me big_smile

My suggestion would be - get 1.75mm filament as 3mm is useless for 99.9% of posters on here smile

But the LM8UU's look reasonably priced.. might have to get some...

Oh.. and don't swim in the lake at Forest Lake.. thats my other tip wink lol smile

Edit: Some content on the About Us page with ABN etc etc would be... well.. nice and show you're above board etc etc

Wait, isn't 3mm filament the most used size?

Give us a tick and I'll have a nice about us page for you smile

Mebbe about 18months ago it was... but these days 1.75mm is all the rage.. and thats what hotends the Solidoodles come with .

Have a look at any of the new printers, and you'll find most are running 1.75mm these days - the Solidoodle, the Rostock, the Replicator2x, etc etc

3mm requires a lot more force to extrude, hence the older requirements for gearing the extruder. 1.75mm offers a lower force, and a quicker transition in the meltzone.. hence most printers are migrating to 1.75mm despite its slightly higher cost from a spooled-filament perspective. But you can run less exotic extruder steppers, and lighter-weight ones, so anything thats Deltra, H-Bot, or flying gantry will generally be 1.75mm now too unless its bowden,... and even then...

You also need more steps-per-mm with 1.75mm for a given amount of filament, providing a theoretical improvement in filament deposition accuracy as well.  Hence why any of the new whizz-bang high resolution printers also run 1.75mm.  So yeah - 3mm used to be more popular - but its a dying breed, and definitely not relevant to any Solidoodle owner anyway...

Will check your About Us page again shortly (hey, I just like to know who/what/where I'm dealing with before I contemplate parting with my hard-earned wink )

Re: Australian Filament Suppliers

Fair enough, We're not exactly well known currently.

I've got a guy over here in HSBNE who has been on my back to buy in some 1.75mm filament for a fancy printer he's getting, so I'll bump that up to top priority for our next shipment in. Thanks for the tip on 1.75mm smile

I've done a basic About us, but will properly flesh it out hopefully tomorrow afternoon.
