Hi Lawsy,
Just organizing your order now. Thanks for your support and positive comments. Your cheque is in the mail!
Just put in an order myself; great to see the other positive messages about them here. Shipping to the states takes a huge bite, but if Ian posted positively about their clear, I'm in. Want to use it to print out diffusers to mount at the end of some fiberoptic cable lightpiping for an underwater application, so I want it mostly clear for transmission, then I can control the 'diffusion' with surface sanding with a relatively fine grit like 320-500 sandpaper.
Couldn't help myself and bought some of the glow-in-the-dark blue as well.
The glow in the dark blue looks amazing when printed.
Awesome to hear, thanks.
Also, Jamie very quickly got ahold of me and let me know that I picked a rather lackluster shipping method - the sea mail can take up to weeks - and we coordinated getting it fixed. He was also very generous about including some samples and did some other nice customer service things I don't want to mention solely because I don't want to set an unfair expectation upon him for others, but suffice to say that unless there's some major issue with the product received (which I don't forsee) I can heartily recommend ordering from him already. Great guy, very responsive, and hopefully first purchase of many.
I was also at a local fiberoptics shop today checking out different lightpiping for my ring flash concept, and think I've got that part nailed down as well. With the clear filament for the diffusers/lenses, I'll be all set. Gotta get cracking with my part design....
Are your lenses going to be a single layer? If you only need the first layer, you should be able to get something pretty clear. If the face of the lens is going to be a vertical wall, it would be a good idea to double check the current on the driver for the extruder. http://www.solidoodle.com/how-to-2/troubleshooting/
I mostly eliminated the moire pattern you can see in my Clear Filament post by correcting the current on my extruder driver.
Ian: I'm really more after 'beam shaping' than any sort of optical lens clarity. e.g. my 'lens' will be to sort of shape the light output from a cut end of a lightpipe to say a 45-60deg cone angle. I'm not too worried about the clear print having bubbles, ripples, line features, etc at this point. Although maybe I can get fancy and use the lines as a fresnel lens effect... ![]()
I may even give up on 'shaping' at all and go straight to diffusion. Most ring flashes are designed to create diffuse, indirect light around the entire lens outline, but that can be kind of boring and limiting in its own right - I was thinking of trying to come up with some sort of hybrid that could be semi-directive (6 pipes in a hex arrangement feeding slight cone-shaping lenses, on moveable hinged supports), or diffuse (the pipes feed into a more integrated ring-shaped diffuser)
All this is solely for the light sourcing - not for the actual camera optical lens.
Yet another happy 3Dprintergear customer! I just got my filament today. My wife said we don't have a star for our little Christmas tree, so I found one on thingiverse and printed one out in crystaline topaz blue and shoved a warm white led in the bottom of it.
Sorry for the crappy phone photos.
Awesome to hear, thanks.

Hi rtrski, thanks for the kind words! Glad I could help out. Didn't want you waiting until Feb for filaments...

pretenda, that looks AWSOME!
If you get time to take some more pictures could you send them to me? I'd like to use them on the site, if OK with you.
Regards
Jamie
Sure. Would love to see them up on your website! Here are some more - I would email them, but they are too big.

Is that a thingiverse star or did you design it? Do you have an stl?
It was just thingiverse - http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:14846
The only difference I made was I jammed the LED up in the holder part - it may not illuminate as well as the original post, but it saves all my dodgey heatshrink job from being on show ![]()
Another Crysta-Line print. I love this stuff!
Edit - photos added, forgot to change my filament settings for the black print
Thanks pretenda. The blue star really goes well with a silver tree.
That beaker looks great too. Thanks for posting!
Regards
Jamie

It's neat but....um....what is it?
(cringing at my own ignorance)
It's translucent ABS. You can get a good view of it in this blog post, and the post previous - http://solidoodletips.wordpress.com/201 … -finisher/

Looks like a beaker...
Yeah Tis a beaker with blue 'fluid' in it. It is a logo I made up for some software I wrote.

Ian - I knew what it was MADE of...scroll up a bit and you'll see I even bought some. I didn't know what the *part* was.
Pretenda - thanks for answering.
Sorry, got that impression from the part you pulled for the quote.
Although I don't have any 1.7mm Laywoo-D3 yet, only 3mm, I thought I would share a recent print I made with it.
Just received all my filament from Jamie (3DPrinterGear), and I have to say even without printing with it yet I'm very impressed. It was packed better than my PRINTER was!
Everything padded, shrinkwrapped and bagged with desiccant, even the smaller samples are totally vacsealed.
Happy printing for the holidays, hurray!! ![]()
Hi rtrski,
Glad they all arrived and in good condition. I'm sure you will have plenty to print with over the holidays!
Regards
Jamie
Just ordered some filament from you Jamie. Picked the free shipping option... how long do you think it will take (order 147)
Looking forward to some nice prints with my new Solidoodle 2 (Finally, after 4 months) ![]()
