Same problem? What did you do where you can't home Z? On the direct drive setup nothing changes.
well my z level probe gets really short with this setup, so the extruder hits the bed really bad

No I never did anything with the probe on the v6 mount. You either have to move it or extend it.

For me on the Bowden, I can home Z manually through RH, but G29 fails as shown in the above video

First off Thanks for this awesome Mod!! between reinforcing the build movement, adding springs under the bed, and this the press is really not too bad.
For our probe we printed a long block 22mm tall to use under the probe when we home and before we print. We use matter control to run the printer.

First off Thanks for this awesome Mod!! between reinforcing the build movement, adding springs under the bed, and this the press is really not too bad.
For our probe we printed a long block 22mm tall to use under the probe when we home and before we print. We use matter control to run the printer.

You could use the existing thermistor if it fits into the proper location on the E3d. I don't know what they had MAX TEMP set to in the stock firmware. So that may be an issue getting up to the proper temps. Other than those couple of concerns I don't see why not.
There is also the heat tightening at 280 issue that you'd have to figure out.
from what I've read, and with your answer, guess the safest bet is to just use everything from the kit. thanks for info then!

thats what I did. Since im only using the press for small PLA projects its fine.

Really? How did you manage with the fan though? isnt the fan that comes with the kit 24volt?
from reading this thread it seems the fan output is 12v on the motherboard.

This is exactly what I'm saying...
The kit you get for the E3DV6 is 24volts including the fan (24v as well).
what did you do? the output is 12volts for the fan. Is there a work around for this? or do you have to solder the fan on to the board 24v input like someone else did on this thread?
Also, once the firmware is flashed, how do I know if it worked succesfully? is there a command I can run in gcode? Would my personal settings have been overwritten? (i had zoffset at 2.9 and 5 point calibration - and that didnt seem to change when i checked)
I know that Solidoodle has gone kaput but anyone care to answer the question regarding the fan voltage please?
It seems like an unsafe work-around to have to solder a fan directly to the power supply because the 24volt kit comes with a 24 volt fan.
My kit came with one 12v and 24v fans.
the 12 v fan wasnt even wroking and was getting hot
I changed it for a 24v fan and so far so good here
Some updates here.
I was able to update the firmware with win 7.
I used a saw to cut the probe and put it lower.
I installed the volcano.
So far everything looks good, the thermistor works and the heater get hot well.
two questions
1. without the original side fan, the motor from the extruder gets really loose...any ideas on how to make it stay in place better?
2. The direct feed actually adds some front bulk to the extruder, and it hits the ffront of the solidoodle press really bad. Is there a way to edit g29 or the trajectory of the extruder when initiating the print? Heck, even if there was a way to use the extruder without the need of the z probe would be better!

After some tests, i just decided to saw the probe and lower it with some duct tape. Ill let you know how it works

Your E3Dv6 kit came with 2 fans??
strange. Also, the 24v fan makes no sense really because you can't get more than 12volts out of the stock motherboard from the fan mounts.
