Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

Ok so I believe the firmware is updated. as it verified and said everything was ok. When I hook it up to the soliprint software it reads-100 extruder and ends the program once I hit heat extruder. So I hook it up to RH and it all seems to work but when I check the firmware thru RH it doesn't have the same name as the modified hex I uploaded. I am assuming it means that the firmware has not been flashed, or maybe it is and the firmware is named something different. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

I updated soliprint and now the temps read correct. I believe I have everything correct now. The only way I could get the firmware to update was using AVRDudess. Its a gui interface for avrdude. I do have a few questions. When you ran your Bowden setup did the extruder drive motor sound different? Mine humms alittle louder now, not sure if that's because of mounting it in the lid and the vibrations are louder or if I have something incorrect. Also with the E3dvs did you have to run alittle different temp than you did with the stock head?
Thanks,

The w/Bowden extras comes with a connector. You really only need one.

Just for info, I ordered a w/bowden version and it had no ptc connector. No biggie as I have a pile of them here anyway, but for anyone ordering it might be worth getting some from Amazon just to be safe.

Edit: But the Gummi Bears were there, so I'm more than happy! I had PTC connectors. I don't have spare Gummi bears. I love that little extra thoughtfulness this shows!

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

It absolutely, 100% should have. I would know, I sell them. You should contact whoever you bought it from and have them send you one.

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

Was bought direct from the Filastruder website. But honestly no biggie. I'm overseas anyway so it'd be a lot of grief to get something to me that I don't really need as I have a bag full of them in the drawer.

If you hadn't sent me the Gummi Bears we'd be having words.... wink

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

You don't have one of these?

http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0239/9287/products/v5_PushFit-500x500_1024x1024.jpg?v=1387223904

Super odd. Hotends are kitted in batches of 20 and I don't have any other reports of missing parts. If you're overseas maybe customs opened the package and lost it? Very strange. Happy to drop one in any subsequent orders if you don't want me to send one separately.

No, I definitely didn't have one of those. There was a small hole in one of the Ziplock bags inside the package, so it's possible it fell out and somehow worked it's way out of the package. But as I said, I can work around it anyway. I have a bag of the threaded ones McGyver referred to earlier in this thread from Amazon (bought in advance just in case I needed them) so they will presumably work just fine.

I can't see anything else missing, so it should all be fine.

Out of curiosity, what are the 2 small adhesive felt strips for? I can't see them mentioned anywhere.

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

They go on the inside of the fan duct to reduce rattling.

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

Ah ok. Thanks. Hit a bit of a wall now so I think the next step has to be a programmer. Which means around a 2 week wait for delivery. sad

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

My E3D V6 kit came with the 40w heater, is there anything I need to do differently or should I order the 25w heater instead?

Many Thanks

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

You have a Press which is 24 volt.  You will want to make sure that the heat cartridge is also 24 volt.  As far as the wattage goes it really doesn't matter but the 25w heater is easier on your PSU.  Either way you can contact Filastruder and I am sure Tim will help you sort it out.

FYI, I recently purchased the e3d-lite bowden kit, and I also didn't have one of those.  I had purchased a 4-pack of push-to-fit ends on amazon, though, so it didn't matter.

I was wondering what those little felt strips were for... if the fan starts rattling, now I'll know what to do! smile

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

FYI, I installed my E3D-V6Lite, and it's like I have a whole new printer!  Thanks MacGyverX for all your work!

Using the bowden setup has resolved a lot of my backlash issues... apparently having so much less weight on the gantry makes a difference.

I do need to figure out how to reduce oozing... I'm thinking I need to read up on filament retraction?

Hmm, I'll investigate this.

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

Dream-Cypher to stop/reduce the oozing, these are the settings I have in slic3r.

In printer settings I have.

Length  2.5mm
Speed: 85mm/s
Retract on layer change is checked

You may want to check what values you have in M203. i.e. mine is set to M203 X1100.00 Y1100.00 Z85.00 E85.00.

You may need to fine tune the settings above. But that should get you in the right ballpark.

You would be correct according to E3d's site.  I wonder if there is any way to differentiate between the 12v and 24v versions?

Where'd you get it from? Hotends should be shipping with blue wire heaters.

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

I bought it from E3D Online from the UK (Where I live), see below link:

http://www.e3d-online.com

I think I am mistaken though, after a little more digging my heater has bluer cables with red sleeves at the bottom, this is what confused me, it seems the 40w heaters have red cables and red sleeves.  So I think I must have the 25w heater which makes me feel somewhat better.

All mechanicals are now done and just need to do the FW update, hopefully will go smooth, however while I have things apart I am also attempting to sort out the bed.

Thanks
Rob

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

Correct, sleeves are always red, wire color is what matters.

Re: E3Dv6 on Solidoodle Press

Here is where I have got up to on the upgrade, just waiting for a few more pieces to complete, looking good so far though.

I was a little apprehensive before I started but it turned out pretty straight forward so far, still the FW update to go though.
