Topic: Solidoodle 2 seems to be resetting

So a week ago I bumped by Solidoodle 2 and noticed the power went out.
So I checked it and the power connector basically broke off.
So I resolder it back on and since then

the motherboard has this red light on.
it seems to be constantly resetting.(hearing the little whine, when you plug in cable or push the reset button)
Whenever I print it stops mid print, no error code generated.

I've gotten a new USB cable to see if that was the problem, It didn't work.
I put it on a new computer same result.

So I have no idea what is going on.
Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Sounds to me like you need to look over your soldering job.

Re: Solidoodle 2 seems to be resetting

What do you mean?
It doesn't lose power from what I can see nor turn off like it use too.

Do you think I might be getting small brown outs?

Re: Solidoodle 2 seems to be resetting

I think that your printer needs plenty of current.  So yes you could call it small brown outs.  Think about how long the LED's stay on when you unplug it.  Also a bad connection can cause interferance with the USB or you could just have a bad USB connection also.

Re: Solidoodle 2 seems to be resetting

I desolder it and resolder it so the wire are direct to the board and still the same problem.

Re: Solidoodle 2 seems to be resetting

Is it possible that when it broke it shorted and messed up the connection (solder) on the PSU?  I have had to resolder those myself as they are rather week.  Also look around for any other connectors that may be got knocked loose.  Any connector will wiggle slightly during printing and can interupt things.

Re: Solidoodle 2 seems to be resetting

Ok checked it out.
Nothing else seems wrong.

Re: Solidoodle 2 seems to be resetting

If nothing else works and if possible, I would next reflash the firmware (may take some effort on the older boards).  If that doesn't work it may be time for a new board.  What board do you have currently?

I would agree and if you do have the older Sang board it is actually easier to flash than the new boards.  An upgrade to a better board is a worthwhile upgrade for sure.

Are the stepper drivers removable? If yes it's a Sang
Either way here's a link to the firmware you'll want.

If you do indeed have the Sang board then the one on the WIKI is fine.
SD puts their stickers on everything so that's why I asked if your stepper drivers are removable.
If you don't know the answer just post a picture of the board.

Re: Solidoodle 2 seems to be resetting

That's a Sang so the WIKI instructions are good.  It seems as though the WIKI is down right now so start by downloading arduino then use that to open up the firmware I linked earlier and navigate your way to the configuration.h file and select your Board in the tools tab.  There are some changes in configuration.h like SD2 or 3(4) and you'll have to choose the board number but there's a list provided.
Then all you do is save the file click verify and if it's good you hit your reset button on the board and click upload at the same time.  That's about all there is to it.

Re: Solidoodle 2 seems to be resetting

ok. I have no idea where to go from here.
I downloaded the prepared version 1.05 started it up.
Went to board selected the mega664
selected my com3.
Then found it is in examples marlin.
and compiling now.

and now avrdude not in sync resp0xd7

Re: Solidoodle 2 seems to be resetting

Download the firmware and navigate via file - new in Arduino and find the file Marlin.ino file and open it.  Once there you'll have tabs across the top you want the configuration.h tab.
Once there let us know.

Re: Solidoodle 2 seems to be resetting

ok I'm there.

20

Re: Solidoodle 2 seems to be resetting

So select in configuration.h file SD2 or 3(4) and then choose what board you have from the list.
For a stock setup that's all you need to do.  Then click save then verify.  If no errors it's good to flash.  Just hit the reset on the board and click upload.  It will tell you when it's done.
If your issue was firmware related then this should fix it.  If not your back to connection issues.

Re: Solidoodle 2 seems to be resetting

I am getting Stk500_getSync(): not in sync:resp=0x89 error.
then I tried again and got a resp=0xd7
and then I got something about core not being able to be renamed.

Re: Solidoodle 2 seems to be resetting

Do you have the correct board chosen?

Re: Solidoodle 2 seems to be resetting

That's the same board I had before I got the rumba - it's a 644.  I can't remember exactly why at the moment but I gave up on flashing it for some reason or another.  I think it had something to do with the chip lacking a bootloader from the factory and me not wanting to mess with an AVR programmer at the time.

Re: Solidoodle 2 seems to be resetting

I've gotten that error before it wasn't the absence of a Bootloader I just don't remember what the issue was.  I do know this sometimes a warning is just that, a warning.  I have flashed with errors before and had no issues.  I would guess you have something incorrect in the configuration.h so don't get discouraged.
