that looks good .. it would work well in other colours, especially black..
it sort of looks like mdf .. does it have the same texture printed ?

order placed for some crystaline stuff .. hope the reds not too far away, i have a job and hope to put it in front of a 7 segment display, will be interesting to see how it looks.
might break out the sandblaster.

Yes it sort of reminds me of MDF.

The colours should be here around the 12 of Nov. Hope that will be soon enough?

I've also asked if the "red" can be made darker, so it looks less pink.

Yes thanks Ian for a balanced report.

borderline .. should be fine ...

I have an american group buy going on one of my products, I told them there was an option of colours for an outer case and mention transparent and transparent red, black .. they took this to mean transparent black .. virtually everyone wanted it.
so .. might be worth considering a black tinted version, i could see as looking quite cool myself.

Crysta-Line colour update.

Just been told that it will be a little longer for the filament. I'm working on it getting to me on or around the 12th of November.

Cheers

Jamie, are you still going to be offering .5 kg spools?  Would it be possible to do one order with maybe 4 different .5 kg spools or coils from you?  Would love to try a couple of those clear filaments, one of the color changing, and possibly the wood if you have it in now... Got the finalized smoothing station up and have to see how these will turn out. Would rather have spools, but maybe save a fortune on shipping to the U.S. if they are all shipped together in bagged coils... Not sure how all that works to be honest... Just let me know please, ready to order when you are.  Thanks for all the great selection!

Re: Australian Filament Suppliers

Hi jooshs,

The coloured filaments are on their way, but they will be on 1kg spools for now, sorry. I did look into .5kg reels, but I have to factor in that it will then cost more to get them to me than it would 1kg. If a 1kg reel costs $49, a .5kg roll would probably be $30.

The other option is no spool, but should consider the possible birds nest associated with loose filament, as apposed to one on a spool. I've only dealt with samples loose and got myself into a mess a few times, even trying to be careful. Just something to consider. It would be cheaper though.

Anyway can you give me a zip code and I'll see what I can come up with?

The wood filament looks like it might be a little longer. Apparently there is quite a demand for 3mm, so they are running that first. 8-(

Cheers
Jamie

Re: Australian Filament Suppliers

Something like this http://shop.thefutureis3d.com/spool-1/s … t-box.html would be useful for non spooled coils.
I ordered one a few weeks ago just to have on hand in case I ever need it. Might come in handy with that wood filament eventually if its not supplied on spools.

Re: Australian Filament Suppliers

I picked one of these up recently from Protoparadigm - http://www.protoparadigm.com/products/a … lb-coil-1/

It comes with a couple sizes of slats, and you can print your own slats if you need a different size.  I might do that, because the coils I have are from Ultimachine, which seem to be a little tighter than what Protoparadigm uses.

You can get by with some kind of lazy susan arrangement, but that is still asking for trouble.  The Sky Hook http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:85 will work.  I've tried using it with the bag the filament came in, but the coil fell out and turned into a giant ball of spaghetti.  It's best to stick with a basket for that one.

Re: Australian Filament Suppliers

Just a quick update.

The Crysta-Line colours have been held up at customs. Not sure what is going on. They probably won't get to me until next week now. They are in Australia though...

Sorry for the delay.

Jamie

Re: Australian Filament Suppliers

Thanks for keeping us posted Jamie. I can't wait to get my new filament. For some reason my printer keeps getting clogged, seems as though quite a few people are having problems with the black filament from solidoodle.

Well customs are being really difficult. Not sure why. I think it is just a random check, but it is holding the shipment up. Definitely won't see it until next week now. Sorry to those who have pre ordered. I'll get them out as soon as possible.

pretenda, I'd send you a sample of my black to try, but I just ran out!

Re: Australian Filament Suppliers

I'm really looking forward to getting a full kg of the Topaz.   Did they tweak the red before sending the full order?  I wouldn't mind having the pinkish version myself.  I'm going to use the yellow sample to print some miniature chairs to go with the table I made with the Ruby.

Re: Australian Filament Suppliers

Hi Ian,

No the "red" will be like the sample I sent you.  What were your thoughts on the shipping numbers I gave you ? Higher or lower than you expected ?

Cheers
Jamie

Re: Australian Filament Suppliers

Thats cool. No big deal. Thanks heaps for the offer though.

I now cant unclog my nozzle (again) and ive run out of gas in my butane torch from clearing it out last time sad Theres all molten plastic all over everything now too, so i cant even screw the nozzle onto the barrel either.

Re: Australian Filament Suppliers

Hey Jamie,
Have been printing for 2 days now with your filament.

Its the ducks nuts mate!
Colors look great, diameter tolerances are tight, sticking to the bed perfectly.

Ive used the yellow, blue, gold & orange so far.

Re: Australian Filament Suppliers

Hey macmub thats great news. I always appreciate any feedback. And thanks for the support!

Re: Australian Filament Suppliers

Still just printing test pieces.
I have prototyped 1 job already...customer filpped out! very impressed.

I noticed you recommend printing at the lowest possible layer height for the lithophane, I havent actually done any .1 printing yet, is it worth trying at .3mm?

I do have white aswell, ive got your white and natural

94

Re: Australian Filament Suppliers

Well you could try .3 but you might lose a bit of detail. .2 could work. The best I can do is .15. But I think .1 would look amazing!
