Topic: Updated firmware. Now I have Z wobble. Update! 9-20-13

I installed my e3d and had to update the firmware for the E3D temps. Now i have developed some Z- wobble.
How do I get rid of this using the firmware. My prints were fine before.

that doesn't look like z-wobble. That looks like moire from the extruder. Try backing the trimpot on your extruder stepper driver counter clockwise a 1/16-1/32 of a turn.

Other methods for setting extruder trim pot -

[*]set to 0 - full counter clockwise (careful not to go past stop)[/*]
[*]in RH set manual extrude speed to 5mm/s[/*]
[*]extrude 100mm [/*]
[*]slowly adjust the trimpot clockwise (1/16 of a turn at a time) until you hear the extruder start extruding smoothly[/*]

Glass bed with QU-BD heat pad upgrade, threadless ballscrew w/ 8mm smooth rod, spectra line belt replacement, lawsy MK5 extruder, Lawsy replacement carriage, E3D hotend, Ramps 1.4 w/ reprap discount controller, DRV8825 drivers, 12v 30A PS, Acrylic case, Overkill Y-idlers, Filament alarm, Extruder fan + more.

I will give it a try. Any Idea of what would have caused this? It was working perfect before I put the E3D on?

the filament might be a have a little more resistance with the E3D since it is stainless and not PEEK lined with teflon. that is my guess. I had the same thing with my E3D.

I haven't got around to this yet. What exactly does this trim pot do? Does it adjust speed or power? Is this on the motor itself or on the board?

you should look at this thread I made about a week ago on uneven microstepping

I did only start to notice it when I went to the E3D

I will have to try this still. Haven't had time.

What about the slight banding. I am going to pick up an M5 rod which hopefully will help.

Try printing some calibration pieces that are vertical and see that you get.

I have some parts I will get pics of. I messed with the stepper Pot. I need to upgrade. I couldn't get it to go away. I'll get some pics up.

I ran a print and tried to adjust on the fly. I turned it down untill it started skipping and went up ever so slightly. It looks a little better but not gone. I am almost back to where I started.

Are the stepper drivers drop in besides changing the firmware? What do you recommend?

Ordered the Pololu 1/32 driver. I'll report back when I have it installed.

Stepper installed. Looks much better. Something is still going on. I'll get a pic up when my print is done.

Did you tune your VREF?

I had to turn mine way down; to just above where extrusion stopped.

Re: Updated firmware. Now I have Z wobble. Update! 9-20-13

looks okay to me. Time to replace the 5/16" threaded rod though.

Yes mine is just above not extruding. I have a m5 rod and m8 for replacement caridge. Should be here early next week. The new stepper is awesome. I hope the m5 cleans up the rest.
