Using a garolite plate will eliminate warping, but it is still possible to print taulmans 618 on the standard SD bed?

Sure. Nylon does not stick to glass though so you need to lay down some painters tape.  You will still get some warping but it will stick to the tape.

Awesome smile Going to order some of the 618 for when I order my SD2. The specs on it look really nice...

tried the 645, increase flow rate from 2.1 to 2.2 or 2.3 works well.
temp normal (190).

Re: Nylon

What did you print the 645 on. I have some 645 but I heard you need a different bed like garolite. Since I only got the 3D printer a few days ago, I have not tried it out.

Re: Nylon

I have not printed many nylon parts, but the ones that I have printed were printed directly on glass with hair spray.

Re: Nylon

I print on 65% polyester/35% cotton ripstop fabric from Propper BDUs spray-glued to glass. The first layer needs to be a deep flat bead. Works fine with no heat for Nylon or ABS for small parts.

In fact I am starting to wonder why a heated bed is ever needed.

157

Re: Nylon

How hard is it to get off the bed with the ripstop fabric?

158

Re: Nylon

It depends on the temp and part. I bet I could lift a 20lb weight from the best it has stuck.

159

Re: Nylon

Sorry I should have been more specific. Does it come off easy after its done cooling off or do you pretty much destroy the glass/fabric when its done?

Even if you can get nylon to stick to glass I would not recommend doing so unless you are printing very small parts. If you print anything large, it is either going to pop off the glass mid print or you are going to crack the glass.

Anyone here think their glass bed can handle this much deflection?

Re: Nylon

Now that I am back up and running I have had some time to play with Taulman 645.

I have been printing at 235 which is on the lower end of what is recommended (once my e3d gets in I will take it to 250+).

As you can see in the picture I use the blue painters tape to mask off areas of the garolite so that the part can still be removed once printing is finished.

Update on durability of Taulman 618:

I just inspected the nylon wheel I had printed from before and it seems to be holding up just fine.  It has been running in the machine for about 10hrs a day/ 7 days a week for 4 months with no noticeable signs of major wear or tear.

Printed my first test print today. Interesting stuff...printed it on painters tape, but will need to pick up a larger Garlite board.

Any tips?

I am going to try Tape on glass tonight. My Garolite will not be here untill tomorrow.

I am running a stock hot end right now. I have a spare so I will give it a shot.

The tape works. It will just warp really easily in the corners so try to keep your parts small.

I keep getting warping. It's not sticking to the blue painters tape very well. I am really squishing the first layer in there. Anyone care to share their settings?

Make sure you mask off areas like I did above with the garolite (post 161) or else you will will have a very hard time removing the part.

Re: Nylon

The masking off helps. I noticed you have to run a few prints before anything sticks to the garolite.

I am printing at 205 on a stock SD3 hot end. I have an E3D on the way.

Any tips on print settings. I keep getting stringies and I have had my hot end jam up twice now.(Not plug)

Retract settings seem to make no difference. I disable avoid crossing perimeters and that has seemed to help.

172

Re: Nylon

Also is the 645 less stringy and less flexible?

Do you have a link to the SD sized Garolite? I bought a 5" plate from Octave before I knew there was more out there under different names. Haven't used it yet because I'll have to mount it over my 3/16" glass and lose more Z.

You should not have to run any prints before the nylon sticks to the garolite.  Try wiping down the surface with acetone.  If that does not work lightly sand the surface of the garolite.

I sliced all my large parts I printed with KISSlicer which solves many of the crossing perimeter problems.  Play with the destring suck and prime settings until you get something that works.

you might try referring to this page as well for some help with settings. http://www.taulman3d.com/618-specifications.html
