The masking off helps. I noticed you have to run a few prints before anything sticks to the garolite.

I am printing at 205 on a stock SD3 hot end. I have an E3D on the way.

Any tips on print settings. I keep getting stringies and I have had my hot end jam up twice now.(Not plug)

Retract settings seem to make no difference. I disable avoid crossing perimeters and that has seemed to help.

You should not have to run any prints before the nylon sticks to the garolite.  Try wiping down the surface with acetone.  If that does not work lightly sand the surface of the garolite.

I sliced all my large parts I printed with KISSlicer which solves many of the crossing perimeter problems.  Play with the destring suck and prime settings until you get something that works.

you might try referring to this page as well for some help with settings. http://www.taulman3d.com/618-specifications.html

Pictures?

I'll give kiss slicer a try. I'll get some pics up soon. Busy at work right now. Next week I can start messing around.

Re: Nylon

My E3D shipped yesterday. I also ordered some 645 and T-Glase!

Re: Nylon

Drying it out in the oven at 200F for a few hours helped considerably!

Re: Nylon

hello everybody, I just got my shipment of taulman 618, i've actually been able to print a few test boxes, but they do not want to stick what so ever. I just upgraded to a glass plate with blue painters tape, but to get the abs to stick I had to use slurry. Will this reduce the nylon's ability to stick? Also I can't really get the nylon to stick very well yet, do I just keep increasing the brim and have a fatter width to the first layer? Currently I'm running the bed at 95 and the nozzle at 210, 215 starting acting sort of weird. I'm also going to try drying the filament out, its popping and hissing a lot and there are plenty of bubbles in the thin walls of my 1 layer test box that did do so great... (the layers didn't adhere so magically as claimed... yet).

Re: Nylon

Heya,

I had practically no luck getting  the nylon to stick to my glass bed or blue painters tape. I ended up getting a garolite bed and have had great success ever since.

Re: Nylon

just to check back in, i dried the whole rolls in the oven at 200 degrees for a few hours, deformed the spools a little bit lol but they're fine. I'm running the nylon right now and its doing amazingly well! I'm running 210-215, i think 215 is getting better layer bonding, and the bed with the top and door off at 85 degrees. i usually have a layer height of .325 over my .3mm settings for abs and i'm back to that for nylon. I think my extrusion width is like 135%, may turn it down even more. I apply abs slurry pretty heavily for abs prints and then i just clean it with pure acetone to for the nylon and its doing great right now! perfect adhesion, coming through perfectly smooth, no bubbles or anything! haha i think some swapped the rolls i had yesterday because its behaving completely differently lol

Re: Nylon

Yes, keeping them dry is important.

I ended up building an enclosure with a dehumidifier rod in it. Keeps it around 16% humidity. Seems to be printing ok right now.

Keep in mind that the nylon works better as your temps get higher.  Obviously without an all metal hot end this is a limitation for some but the differences I noticed between 230C and 245C were significant.

Re: Nylon

So guys got my Nylon 645 going today. Got a couple of questions.

What sort of layer adhesion should I expect from this stuff?
Stock hotend sd3 printing at 210 on RH.

Basically I printed a small 15mmx15mm tower no fill with a single wall. Printed nice. Wall thiknes is really close to expected. But I was able to just pull and separate the layers. That was at .3mm at .2mm it seemed a bit better. I could twist the tower no problem but when I bent it the layers broke apart. is this about normal for this print or should this stuff adhere like its one piece?

Thank you!

Re: Nylon

You should get a little better adhesion than that even with the stock hotend... but more heat would help a lot. You may have to turn up the flow rate a bit as the more squish you get the better the adhesion will be. Like most filament it will always be weaker in the Z direction so , no it won't adhere like it's one piece.

The problem with nylons is you really need more heat than the stock SD hotend can give safely for maximum adhesion hence the reason most people that use nylon have gone to the E3D or similar.

Re: Nylon

One other thing, are you printing in an enclosure?

If not you might think about making something as it does help a bit.

Re: Nylon

Ron, Thank you. Yes she is enclosed. Whats max setting for stock hotend 210 in RH right? As for flowrate how do i calculate how much I should increase it? I assume you mean the slider under the manual control tab in RH.l It's at 100 right now. Do you guys print at lower heights with nylon? (.2 as apposed to .3)

Sorry for all the questions. Thank you!

Changing your extrusion multiplier(in slic3r) will increase flowrate. Just try a little at a time.

I print my nylon layers at .25-.3mm

The real key as ronsii said was that you need more heat to really get the most out of nylon.

Re: Nylon

^^ Also you could slow your print speed in half or more as this will make some difference but unless the print is small it takes a lot of patience smile

I have moved away from garolite LE and have been very successful with just glass and elmers glue.

Makes it much easier to pint.
