Re: E3D Titan extruder

Note also that due to the gear reduction, you can get away with a smaller (lighter) NEMA17 motor. There's a weight savings of around 100g to be had there.

The stock Da Vinci 1.0 Extruder / Hotend can be at best described as agricultural.

I may have to do this, when I was heating up the gear it slid towards the motor. After that I could not heat it up enough to get it to slide off, I eventually cooked it.

Re: E3D Titan extruder

Probably best to heat it with the gear down and let gravity do its job...  will a standard stepper work?   Doesn't davinci swap two wires?

According to this thread  it is standard, I just need to figure out the wiring.

Re: E3D Titan extruder

Is the ptfe tubing just for a bowden setup or is it used somehow with direct drive ?

PTFE tubing is used in:

1.75mm direct and Bowden v6
3.0mm bowden v6
direct and Bowden Lite6

Re: E3D Titan extruder

Sorry, what I meant was how is the piece of tubing which comes with the Titan used ?

If you look at the top of the tensioner, you will see there is a hole. It is a very tight fit, so be careful not to break anything. For direct and not bowden place a piece of PTFE tubing about 50mm long into this hole as the start of a guide. It will only go so far then the original hole in the tensioner takes over. There is a small gap in the filament Path of about 2mm ish as it goes past the idler gear

Hope this helps

Re: E3D Titan extruder

Thanks Stuart.
Does the tubing go right down to the gears ?  (I'm thinking about flexible filament here.)
If possible, could you upload a shot of yours ?

I've seen that, but as I wrote earlier, my Extruder stepper motor post Titan only gets a fraction as hot as it used too. It is printing so fast. I'm not even tempted to try.

I'm sorry that happened.  I wanted to see the rest where you fry the motor!

That post is a mess, but the bottom line is she reports this stepper motor works with the titan.  Isn't it cute??

I tried to link/quote this earlier, but I was flagged for spam.
Her pictures seem to be corrupted links. But if what she says is true, it is nothing short of impressive.

Re: E3D Titan extruder

What she said is true, I'm not sure why the links are broken. I saw her setup printing myself, here's a video:

https://youtu.be/-eYEmzcHlcs?t=889

Its simple math really, with a 3:1 reduction ratio the stepper motor only needs to have 1/3rd the torque of a normal direct drive NEMA17.

Re: E3D Titan extruder

What I have now is the Titan with this stepper motor (https://www.matterhackers.com/store/pri … pper-motor), its current/phase is 2.0, can I just replace the stepper motor driver then adjust to give it 2.0 amps and call it a day?

http://soliforum.com/i/?FaQ9HvN.jpghttp://soliforum.com/i/?Gzfgycq.jpg

148

Re: E3D Titan extruder

Those motors have far more torque than is needed, most Pololu style stepper drivers can't do 2 amps anyway. 0.6 amps or so would be plenty on that setup.

Also this:

The motors have twice the step accuracy of a typical motor.

is pretty silly, these are 1.8deg motors, which is standard.
