Topic: Hooking up the 12v cooling fan on an e3d hotend upgrade solidoodle 2

Every tutorial I've looked at for upgrading the hotend glosses over this part entirely, how\where do I hook the cooling fan up to power?  It's probably a blantant newbie question, but that's pretty much what I am.  I used a battery for a day or so but it ran that dry really quickly so I'm looking for a permanent solution.  Thanks in advance.

You can connect it to the same power source for the fan on the back of the extruder stepper motor, just splice the wires together.

oddly, that fan doesn't come on either.

Well, that'd be something to take up with Solidoodle. Its important.

i linked it in with the led lights and that worked.  still not getting the extruder motor fan to come on though

I would trace back the wires from the fan to the board and check connections. If everything looks good i'd say its a bad fan. Try and hook up an extra fan or use a multimeter on the connections to check for power. That is the easiest way to tell if its the fan or connections.

I picked up an innova and couldnt be happier. Works for simple things and home reapiars.

I used the aux fan out on the board & hooked up a 12v 41mm fan. it was very straight forward just two pins to solder. I added a header just in case the fan dies, i can replace it easily. I enabled RH & Slic3r for fan support, finally I created my own fan mount and bolted it to the side where the extra extruder fan mounted I used those pins to drive the E3D. I get terrific prints!

I just tapped into the existing fan on the extruder carriage and powered the fan from there. Worked like a charm.
