Topic: PLA Constantly clogging?

I have been TRYING to use PLA I have white and black colors and I have CONSTANTLY been getting clogs!  In the PEEK Barrel I believe.  It's getting to the point where im starting to get real annoyed.  I also haven't been able to print anything for DAYS because I keep getting this (see attachment).  Someone please Help I love PLA and its not the material either I tried Kapton tape and a regular glass bed with hairspray and no matter what I still get the same affect!

are these partial clogs or is it completely blocking the hotend nozzle? what temps have you tried for the extruder?

Re: PLA Constantly clogging?

they range from 155 to 175.  And it seems to just be blocking the PEEK barrel.  Like if I remove it I can usually grip the pla with some pliers and pull it out.

Take a good look at the diameter of the filament. I had a bad roll of PLA that had a lot of kinks and bad diameter variance that caused this to happen.

I measured it and it's 1.8 most of the way with the normal .01 variations along it which was probably just slight movements of my hand or the caliper. Nothing major. I replaced the entire hot end recently, but had problems before that as well. Black and white pla have both given me problems but pla never has.

Re: PLA Constantly clogging?

PLA tends to soften before ABS. I would try putting a fan on the PEEK. That might help keep the filament cool until it gets to the barrel. If you have switched to the Jigsaw replacement then you can just put a 40 MM fan on the mounting screw. Here is a picture that IanJohnson posted a while back of how he did it.
