Topic: Problem Installing New Filament on SD3

Hi, we just got a new Solidoodle 3, and have been following the instructions to set it up.  We have done everything the instructions say so far.  Then when we got to installing the new filament, nothing is happening.  The temp is 195, but the motors aren't turning when we press down on the filament  and press the extrude button.  Can someone please help us out?  Thanks in advance!

What com port did you set RH to?

Our problem now is that the motor isn't feeding the filament

Right. What com port did you set RH to?

So the extruder get the command to heat up and reading it at 195, but the motor just not extruding.

Can that still be the port issue?

Re: Problem Installing New Filament on SD3

Sometimes RH can lose connection and still look like it is connected.  Something else you can try is turn off power, and then switch the plug for the extruder motor with the plug for the X motor.  Then see if it moves in X when you hit the extrude button and see if the extruder moves when you hit the X button.

Re: Problem Installing New Filament on SD3

This is what elmoret is trying to point out. If your comm port says "virtual printer" then it isn't actually connected to your solidoodle. In fact, the screen shot below is from my laptop just a second ago. I can assure you that I am not connected to any printers. The virtual printer will even look like it is heating up.

Re: Problem Installing New Filament on SD3

I'll have to try the motor plug switching like Ian suggested.

Re: Problem Installing New Filament on SD3

I tried to find a post to help set up my printer. I'm new here so I have no idea where to begin looking. So,,, I shall trespass and hope I get some help. So far all I've been able to do is get the leds to come on. I get no heat or movement. How do you get it to know what usb port I plugged it into?
