There have been several threads around, especially at the google groups.  It has been attributed a lot to wobbly Z rods, but it seems to come down to some rods having problems with the threads, causing inconsistencies in the length of moves when changing layers.  Hopefully they are either changing suppliers or working out a way to detect the bad rods before installing them.  We don't know for sure, that is the kind of thing any company would keep to themselves.

Ian, is this a wide spread problem or something that perhaps was due to a "batch" of bad hardware specs or such???  I am REALLY hoping for a good unit, but I'll be on the look out for this problem.  Thanks!  Kevin

Widespread but mainly regarding .1mm prints

Well, looks like I'll be in the soup then, lol.  I DEF want to do some .1mm prints, although I will be doing some prints with normal tolerances because I am covering the finished product.  I hope to search Google groups and get some good info in the next few days...:)

Still waiting here. Original SD2 order July 23, updated order November 18 for SD3 (#5480).  Last email said that I should receive my printer within the first 2 weeks of January.  Alas, my SD3 is so far a vapor printer.

yeah, that tells me that I am an early orderer.  My number is 5840, not 5480 as I earlier stated, my bad.  Must come from the frustration of waiting months and months.  Still, if you are number 8, surely I am at a minimum of number 7.

Re: Orders Shipping List

While I understand that shipping can cause some alignment issues, it is difficult to find that an acceptable reason to wait for months and months for the delivery of a device that is claimed to be so tough that it can be stood on by a 200 lb man, a claim made to demonstrate how "tough" the device is.  So, that said, is shipping so hazardous that special parts must be made to be able to deliver it safely?  The earlier shipping methods included filling it with "peanuts".  Was that successful, or not?  Would it not work now?  Personally, I have waited to the point that I now have begun to question why I ever dedicated this much money into this project.  I am told that it is worth the wait, and I dont doubt it is.  However, this form of duress is worthy of better feedback which has been at best, sparce and inaccurate.  Ship!  My patients are shreaded, I want my printer.

Simple physics, A 200 pound static load is nothing compared to just a 15 pound object dropped from 4 feet stopping in less than a tenth of a second, or maybe the box was on a top level of conveyor sorting app. and got knocked 20+ feet to land flat on concrete :0) Good luck with any printer coming out of that working smile

Re: Orders Shipping List

Peanuts was wildly unsuccessful.   People were constantly posting about receiving broken printers until they beefed up the Y carriages and got custom shipping materials.   I don't recall hearing about shipping damages since they got the new boxes.   You might be able to stand on the printer, but when the UPS guys start tossing the boxes underhand, you will be glad they waited for the custom packaging.

The other item SD can't contol is the weather or temp.    My SD box was brought indoors and allowed to warm to room temp., that wasn't enough.   Firm belief it got so cold in shipping that the grease they use became more glue like.

When testing out of the box my Y became unmovable.   Had to free up the Y and move the Y axis back and forth until the axis was in working condition.

Also out of the box the cold in shipping, caused the filament inside the hot end to stick and clog.   Beleive SD should back out the filament as much as possible before shipping.

Re: Orders Shipping List

Okay, point made about inertia, having been a physics major in college, I understand that and all, but I cannot ever remember waiting this long for anything.  I would be much happier with a straight forward honest answer as to what is happening, and a realitic answer as to when it will finally be sent.

Re: Orders Shipping List

Sounds like "We are waiting on parts to finish and pack" is pretty straightforward.  As for when, they may not know either.  When getting stuff shipped from China it is usually "Last seen in sorting in Shenzen on XX/XX" and then days or weeks later it shows up.  Hopefully when their parts arrive there will be nothing wrong with them.  Sometimes their own estimates can get derailed by suppliers' mistakes.

I missed that post.. even looking back, I don't see it.  I know they have been swamped with their unexpected success.  but I received two emails in December, one saying it was impossible to estimate delivery, and the same day, one saying I would receive it "within the first two weeks of January".  It is likely easier to be patient when you already have one in your hands.

Well, so much for the 8-10 weeks. I just passed week 8 (11/26/12) on mine and I'm quite a ways behind you.
