Topic: Glow in the dark from Makerbot - not enough heat?

I bought some glow in the dark ABS from Makerbot, but I'm not sure it will work.

The problem is in the temperature, I'm trying to print at 210C, but it does look like it's not high enough, the layers are not sticking together.

How high would it be safe to go? (after changing the firmware limit)

For what I found, the first thing to fail would be the PEEK, is it right? Is there anyway around the PEEK melting?

210 is already the max limit... it mean 240 for the solidoodle... (s2  show 30 deg under the real temp..)

210c?!? That's high! I got some from Octave, white/glow in the dark, and it sticks to itself fine from 185c to 200c.

Octave don't delivery to Brazil sad

I got some green filament together with the glow in the dark, and I'm having the same issue with it. I measured and both are about 1.77mm.

Nobody else tried the filaments from Makerbot?

fyi, i ordered my octave filament via amazon dot com. THEY should be able to ship to Brazil. just a guess, though.
Have you tried again at a lower temp yet?

What's the temp in your room? Do you have a case on to keep the temp high around the print? Often times, from experience, low ambient temp will cause layers to separate during printing.

No trees were harmed in the creation of this email, though some electrons were horribly inconvenienced.

Well, I tried the green again with a lower temp, and now I'm printing fine at 200c.

Will try the glow in the dark again later this week.

Thanks for the help!

Re: Glow in the dark from Makerbot - not enough heat?

Makerbot is extremely overpriced that's why you don't see many using it...215 is the FW shutdown limit, but I would stay at 210,  Zen-TW clear has to be extruded at 210 or it jams, works great at that temp...but not lower; try 213 max (make sure your extruder temps are not swinging if they are unstable you should PID tune(your environment is not like NY most likely)...you could also try drying out that filament some in a over before at very low temp (since Brazil can be moist); I remember reading somewhere that excessive moisture could cause this problem you speak of...hope this helps.  Enjoy your printer!!!

Use a service like shipito.com. But then the filament is more expensive.

Re: Glow in the dark from Makerbot - not enough heat?

I tried the glow in the dark again, and after a going from 200C, 195C, 205C, 185C, 210C, 175C, I was almost giving up when it suddenly I started to see some flow at 160C!!

I'm still having many troubles with it, it's very hard to make it stick to the bed (I'm using Kapton) and the extruder stops, apparently because the filament it's too soft because of the heat. I have to retract it completely, cut the deformed part and extrude it again.

The best I could tune it so far is: extruder at 165C and 105C for the bed.

There are only few sites with high quality filament that delivery to Brazil, and if I try to use a shipping redirection I end up paying more than the overcharge Makerbot is asking.
