Topic: clogged extruder? layer shift? need diagnosis help

I think I have two problems in one here: Clogged hot-end and layer shift (perhaps not quite visible).  Picture is of an ABS print at .1mm layer height, and the stuff hanging from the hot end is just 10mm of manual feed at 100mm/min (something that has always worked). Extruder temp 205c, bed temp 80c.

Two nights ago I took the hot end apart and cleaned it with heat, acetone, wire, and it looked great and worked great at first... now this.

Questions:
1.  When I manually feed the motor sound is not quite uniform.  It's a bit like a quick soft "runrunrunrunrunrunrun", rather than just "rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr".  Is that normal?
3.  Does the thread of plastic from the manual feed look like it's from a clogged extruder?
2.  I have installed a printed cable chain which perhaps pulls a bit when the print head goes into this corner.  I have braided fishing lines instead of belts, as well as lawsy's carriage replacements.  I didn't witness any pulley slippage, but I'm wondering if it is that or axis motor skipping.  Any thoughts?

Lastly, any experience on no-name extruders?  I can't really justify the cost of an E3D at the moment...

I've never understood how to post a picture here.  All the obvious things don't work.

That sounds like a partial clog, but I think the skipping is from overextrusion. Double check your extruder calibration and adjust the VREF as needed. The two of those being out of whack can cause that sound you are hearing. And I think the nozzle is snagging on some cooled plastic, which can cause a shift.

Please do not look into any clones to replace your hotend. Are you aware E3D came out with an affordable hotend called the Lite6? $35 and I have hundreds of hours on mine. Aside from temp limit of 245c, it behaves nearly identical to my v6.

i second the Lite6, love mine and very affordable. Unless you are wanting to use exotic filaments that require high temps, it is great for everyday use.
Just be sure you order from an authorized dealer so you get the real deal - there are a ton of clones out there that arent nearly as good. If in the US, filastruder.com is great.

if outside the US, check the E3D authorized listings for a dealer near you. http://e3d-online.com/Genuine-Check

Okay... I got the dang e3D v6 big_smile.  Not looking forward to doing my first firmware upgrade though ><

We can help walk you through it. Judging by your forum join date and the wooden platform, you have a Sang board. You will need to confirm this before progressing with the upgrade.
You will find the E3D is more than worth the price and effort

Yes, sanguinololu.  I see the soliwiki guide, and I have orederd a 30A power supply.   I don't plan on turning this into my question thread, but I was just noticing that the AWG connectors will have very expensive shipping, being from digikey.  Wondering what my alternatives are without cannibalizing the existing extruder.

Re: clogged extruder? layer shift? need diagnosis help

I have 2 3d printers and every thing works heating, melting, and the plate heats, but as it get's to the point to start printing it goes to the home corner and stops and starts making a loud noise, if I leave it the noise stops and the head tries to go to the start point but doesn't get there it starts to zig zag and just move around a little at which time I stop it. I have tried every thing I know to get it to work but even my other printer is doing the same thing????? Any help ????? Thanks Ron.
