Topic: shifting problems on sd3

I'm just starting to have problems with shifting on my sd3. I've tried abs and pla and both tend to have the same problem. Bed is leveled and extrusion rate is correct. Could this be the y motor going out missing a step?

Your motors may be overheating. Also, if you have not already, add a fan or two to cool your stepper drivers.
If my guess is right, there are quite a few different fan mounting options on Thingiverse

Good to see you back smile

Printit Mason and Printit Horizon printers
Multiple SD2s- Bulldog XL, E3D v5/v6/Lite6, Volcano, Hobb Goblin, Titan, .9 motor, Lawsy carriages, direct Y drive, fishing line...the list goes on
Filawinder and Filastruder #1870.....worth every penny!

I'd clean and lube the rods, check the belts for rubbing, realign and tension them all, and at the very end readjust Vref.

If you still have issues, it might be time for linear ball bearings and/or direct-drive y mod. smile

This was the issue. A fan on the y motor cured it. I appreciate your and everyone elses advice greatly
