Topic: Ugly prints after E3D upgrade.
Hi.
I've upgraded my SD4 with a E3D v6, and updated the firmware to reflect that.
But my prints looks like this:
I can't figure out what's causing this.
Can anyone help?

too small an area while trying to print, causes previous layers to re-melt. Try adding another part beside this one or a small column the same height next to this on or speed up last few layers, or add cooling fan.

Thanks I'll try making a pillar somewhere on the bed.
You could also just slide the feedrate slider down when you get to that area of the print.
+1 on all options - consider them an arsenal against melting; you can do a combination of feedrate, tower and fan if you like, they'll all work together.
* Reducing feedrate will only work down to a certain point: eventually the nozzle will remelt locally anyway
* The tower is a bit of a waste of filament but they work well (I did this a lot, including for this exact print, before installing a fan)
* A nozzle fan brings your useable layer size range down a whole lot, but you sometimes still have to consider the above methods.
The rest of your print looks really tidy from an extrusion point of view. Hang onto those settings!
Next up will be cleaning up that horizontal striping (banding) - check out bed stabilisers and fine-thread z-rods for your next mod! ![]()
