Re: problems with vref

I followed the instructions but got a spark now my printer is dead so i obviously managed to fry the fing board.

so what boards are recommended for the sd3 as a replacement when you have to replace the fing board

Re: problems with vref

The original SD's used a Sanguinololu and the newer boards used a PrinterBoard.
There are many to choose from
Ramps
Rambo
Azteeg
Rumba
along with many others.
I guess you need to ask yourself if you are trying to upgrade as long as you find yourself in this situation?
Than I would go Rumba or Azteeg x3

Printit Industries Model 8.10 fully enclosed CoreXY, Chamber heat
3-SD3's & a Workbench all fully enclosed, RH-Slic3r Win7pro, E3D V6, Volcano & Cyclops Hot End
SSR/500W AC Heated Glass Bed, Linear bearings on SS rods. Direct Drive Y-axis, BulldogXL
Thanks to all for your contributions

Re: problems with vref

well the good news is it came back up after i shut everything down and turned off the computer and then unplugged the printer and let it sit. bad news the adjustment button did pop off and now they axis motor isn't working right. so i think i'll still need a new board

or maybe atleast 1 stepper controller and maybe more competence tongue

Re: problems with vref

oh if anyone is interested radioshack started their closeout of their stores right now its 10-50% off their arduino kits are 10% off but not sure if they have what i need to fix machine

all components are 50% off though

Re: problems with vref

Oh no! "Popped off" sounds a bit dire - the SD boards have the stepper drivers incorporated, while other solutions use the Pololu-style carrier boards that can be replaced (adjustment knob and all).

If it's not working, you'll need a new board.

See if radio shack has plastic screwdrivers - might be helpful for next time! smile

SD3. Mk2b + glass, heated enclosure, GT2 belts, direct drive y shaft, linear bearings, bowden-feed E3D v5 w/ 0.9° stepper
Smoothieboard via Octoprint on RPi

Re: problems with vref

no plastic or ceramic screwdrivers

I called solidoodle to see if they had replacements they do not. However they have offered to help . I send my printer to them at my cost they will replace the board and make sure its calibrated properly then ship it back. i'm going to package it up tomorrow and send it out tomorrow

I hope they get you taken care of quickly.

That said, it is still worth it to pick up a ceramic screwdriver (or a set) to have on hand for future use.

the vrefs on my SD4 were way out of adjustment - especially the extruder! it was nearly 4 times what it was supposed to be.

SD4 with Lawsy carriages, Rumba board, & new 12v PSU, E3D v6, mirror bed plate, X motor fan.
Stock SD4
Prusa i3 kit, spring loaded extruder upgrade, Y axis belt tensioner

Re: problems with vref

For the cost of shipping I would think you could find a better replacement board.  Knowing how to adjust and fix is a good thing.  I am glad SD is offering to help but that isn't how I'd spend my money.
