Topic: Need advice on how to handle a situation with Solidoodle
I'll try to keep this as short as possible.
I preordered a Solidoodle Press in October 2014 and after waiting 18+ weeks with multiple shipping delays, I decided to just upgrade to a Workbench Apprentice because I thought I'd get it sooner. The order was changed on Feb. 27, 2015.
On March 10 I asked Solidoodle support if they had any estimation for shipping. I received a response on March 18 that they were waiting on parts for the WA and that the printer would ship in a week. I then got an email later the same day that my printer had shipped. Odd, but okay, whatever.
I received my WA the next day (March 19) and looked it over at work. I noticed this sticker on the back of the printer, but didn't think much of it at the time. I also noticed that the x-axis heatsink fan seemed misaligned, but didn't think much of that either.
When I got the printer home and tried to use it, I realized that I was missing the power cord for the power converter. This is all I received. The cord that goes to the wall outlet was missing. Luckily I had some of those type of cords laying around so I was up and running in a few minutes.
When I tried to use Soliprint to home the carriage, the y-axis was binding up and could not move at all. It only took me a few minutes to fix this by adjusting and evening the belt tensions, but I felt this was something I should not have to do on a brand new printer that is supposedly tested by Solidoodle before being shipped.
Just this weekend while running a print, I got down on the floor so I could be eye level with the bed, and I noticed that the x-axis heatsink fan was not working at all. When I inspected it, I realized that it was broken. The holes on the heatsink did not line up with the holes on the fan, yet someone tried to tighten the screws in anyway which caused the fan to crack/crush. The heatsink is also just a total hackjob. There are several pictures of them both at the end of this album.
I contacted Solidoodle support about the heatsink/fan but am still waiting to hear back. My concern at this point is that I'm suspecting this was a returned/refurbished unit due to that school sticker. Not only do I expect a new product when I pay for a new product, but if this was first shipped to someone else, how did they not inspect it and find any of these issues??
Any thoughts/advice are appreciated.
