Re: Solidoodle complaints, problems, wait time bitching etc...share yours

"Plug and play" is not really *that* subjective, come on...
"Everyday mainstream consumer" isn't either:

With few exceptions every Solidoodle is a plug and play device, those few exceptions aren't small ones, or easy to solve for everyday mainstream consumer, it might be for tinkerers, but it isn't for them. No matter how easy those things seem fixable *for you*, it doesn't make it any more plug and play...

And it seems most issues are not even because of QC, which I've already commented on but bad design... (motors not having enough tourque, spool not positioned high enough, cables too short, getting in the way of other components, glass too thin... just browsing through some new threads).

Being so forgiving to a company for so many issues is part of the reason the same issues are still there and some of us are here, complaining, instead of just using our Davinci, Printrbot, Prusa, etc.

well I am positive the SD Press was NOT designed to be sold to any seasoned 3D printer user. they even stated this repeatedly in all hipe, ads, blogs, reviews etc. thats what the WB series was for and they also fell way short of thr 40 yard line on that down as well.

the 'Press' by all the pages of complaints that fill this site lately is a colossal FAIL by any industry standards. and while we are at it "WHERE IS Sam and crew? in all this and why arnt they dealing with their own nest full of poop? instead of letting us whom dont get any salary let alone credit for constantly pick up the missed free shots of theirs. plus ALL other models being made still in Brooklyn seem to have gone AWOL as well besides having seemingly monkeys doing the QC/packing & shipping for most of the last 6 plus months. is anybody minding the store while Sams in China etc? looks like any knowlegable responcible employees got canned for cheap imagrant help.

LOL WOW! that video could be used for a class action lawsuit at this stage. man totally the opposite off whats true now.

this is sad where SD has gone since 3 years ago when I was searching for best option for a 3D printer. I dont think I would have bought a Solidoodle if all the current issues where going on then, but again this is how over 90% of companys end once joining with places like China sad but true.

Hello all.

I have to admit, I'm a little nervous. I ordered a printer (sd4), without having read through this forum, back towards the end of December. The ship time then was 3-4 weeks. I've just passed the outside estimate on that, and I'm a little worried that I'm going to find myself in a bad situation. I have not heard anything useful from them, other than an email instructing me to ask again later.

Did anyone else order in December? Did you get your printer? Does it work? Would it be smarter to just cancel the order and buy a different brand from someone else?

I feel like I may have made a mistake (knowing that the brand had been around for a little while) and assuming that they must actually ship things when people buy them.  hmm

There are far better options than the solidoodle. If you wan to build a printer I suggest  looking at different kinds of repraps like the Sli3dr and the 3DR or a Prusa i3. Some notable printers out there are the TAZ mini, TAZ 4, Ultimaker, CEL robox etc. If you want a very average printer go right ahead and buy a SD4.

Solidoodle cut entirely too many corners on these newest models. They China-tized their products and came out with Chinese crap. This can not be good for their company, I hope they learn from their mistakes and learn the American way of quality and make even stronger more improved models in the next couple years.

I would hate to see solidoodle go out bc I really love my sd2 and sd3. But the sd4 and workbenches just really belong in a Chinese dumpster fire. I hope the sd5 puts all this in the dust and blows us away

Re: Solidoodle complaints, problems, wait time bitching etc...share yours

The Press is the only one that has been manufactured in China.  Does it seem to you that the Press has been a lower quality printer than the American made models that came before?  Because they were also launched with the promise of plug and play and had just as many, if not more problems than the Press, such as the disintegrating acrylic extruder, and Z rods with mounting holes drilled off-center.

Just because it is made in America is no guarantee of quality. In some cases, Chinese made products triumph American made products, and in some cases American made products triumph over Chinese made products.

Products made in China are usually junk. They don't care there, it's just how cheap can it get done. If solidoodle wants to stay in business they need to focus on quality

It's not China  it's price.   You can go to China for cheap  but they will cut corners to make the price just as SD had been cutting corners and getting low quality in Brooklyn.  You can get high quality in China but you have to pay for it just like anywhere else.  It's not that they can't or don't care about quality manufacturing.   They just offer the service of cheap and bad to the people who want it,  and enough customers care more about price than quality to want it.

Can you cite specific example of how the press is Chinese crap?  Besides the wire bundle issue I'm pretty impressed with the build quality for the price.

Aside from the hotend the only issues really do seem to be QC issues, pretty much all of which they could have caught if they didn't jump the gun and sent the printers to Brooklyn first. But with people canceling orders and raising hell every hour of every day. I can understand why they did not allow for this delay. They should have scheduled it in, but this was SDs first time doing overseas manufacturing. I'm willing to bet they will not make this mistake again, if they are given another chance.

Overall, though, it seems like a substantial improvement to me. The variation in build quality seen even on the SD4 is pretty mind boggling (lack of epoxy was a huge problem).  Some folks get results right out of the box that cost me a lot of money and frustration to get. At least that era seems to be ending with the press.

Guys, Press doesn't have issues because it was made in China, but because it was poorly designed/or assembled. China has nothing to do with it. My Solidoodle 4 has a proud "Made in USA" label on the back but the issues are probably more than on your Solidoodle Press.
Almost everything from any company these days is made in China, from your iphones that you use until a new identical model is out to your cheap chinese iphone chargers that die after a week of use.

i've been waiting over 4 months for my SD press...   not even any updates in over a month now.
A refund is not even gonna do it at this point, and even if this machine worked as good as they promised (which from the thread is obvious that it does not) that is not good enough either.

No attorney is going to take a class action suit against a company that is willingly providing refunds.

If you don't want the printer, ask for a refund. Simple as that.

well... just under half a year , a refund is NOT going to work.

I have an attorney local here in LA who has NEVER lost and eager to take this case, which is why I posted.

thanks, that is all
