Topic: Getting there I think

I was able to get all of my connection problems figured out.  Apparently the "Command Waiting" thing was related to g-code m140 or m105 not sure which.  Anyway...

Now it starts to print but about 5 seconds in the filament is jsut grinding away in the extruder and no more is coming out.

Any ideas?

What do you mean by "grinding"?
Is the filament flaking off? Or is it making a clicking sound?

Printit Mason and Printit Horizon printers
Multiple SD2s- Bulldog XL, E3D v5/v6/Lite6, Volcano, Hobb Goblin, Titan, .9 motor, Lawsy carriages, direct Y drive, fishing line...the list goes on
Filawinder and Filastruder #1870.....worth every penny!

Re: Getting there I think

Basically the filament is not being pushed through the extruder so the extruder gear grinds away the filament at the top leaving a dent in it.  I have to pull it out, cut it above the dent, reload and restart but it does the same thing all over again.

IT just stops pushing it through.  There is no significant loss in temperature it jsut stops getting pushed through.

Sounds like a clogged nozzle to me.

Re: Getting there I think

Can you push it through the nozzle by hand? If not, she's clogged. If so you have an issue at the extruder. If you don't have enough tension, for example, it doesn't have enough force to push it through the peek barrel and the extruder will just sit there happily chewing the filament away.

Re: Getting there I think

I did go through and remove the extruder assembly and push out the remaining plastic with a hex key but should I jsut go head and get a new nozzle since they are only around $5-8?

Re: Getting there I think

Thinking about it I should also probably find someone to print a different extruder assembly for me since mine broke and I had to fix it with aluminum and screws.  It's solid enough but leaves no room for adjustment.

Re: Getting there I think

IS anyone using the Lawsy replacement carriage?  If someone were willing to print me up one I could trade for a spool of filament or something.

You can buy the mk5 from Filastruder.  I'd print one for you, but I don't currently have any ABS, and you probably wouldn't want it printed from PLA.

Re: Getting there I think

Are you referring to the MK-5 that holds the hot end or the actual carriage that allows the use of linear bearings?

Re: Getting there I think

The portion that hold the parts that push the filament through.  I got one in the mail today.  I think that I am all good now.  I just need to put it all together.
