Topic: quality help.

I am trying to print a battery tray for a guy and he has a tray that was printed by someone else. When i print the plus sign i dont get good square corners. Can anyone guide me in how to correct this problem. Attached is mine vs tje other guys.

Re: quality help.

From what I can tell you have slack in your belts and maybe play in your pullies. Did you do the shims that where advised for holes not being round? It may also be belt tension not tight enough and your speed could be too fast as well. If you print too fast for fine detail the print head cannot make the direction change quick enough and you get over shoot.

I would try this at highest res and lowest speed.

Re: quality help.

I had shimmed my z axis prior to this but since you mention it I looked at my x axis and the two on the left side do move a tiny bit so I will shim them and retry. here is a test part I made if anyone else wants to compare. it is 12mm diameter and 0.6mm thick. printing on .3 layer

Just for consistency, how thick is that object and what layer height did you use?

I am not convinced that this machine can do .1 layers. I have seen .1 layers and quality and those samples you printed are far from them to be honest. I honestly have yet to try myself but I am poring my resources into do a full E3D conversion as well as mainboard swap on mine so it can do .1 and maybe even .05.

Re: quality help.

I am equally skeptical about the claim that it is doing .1 layers... for the purpose of the photos, I was just stating the settings that I selected for the programs indicated.

Re: quality help.

It looks like it is extruding too much plastic.  Rather than clean lines nested together, the plastic looks like it's been squished around due to overcrowding of the threads and possibly the nozzle dragging in it.  I don't know the setting in XYZware, but you can try reducing the Extrusion Multiplier in S3D.

That finish on the top layer was my main complaint on the slicer in xyzware. I posted a thread with a calibration cube with a similar finish. Now that I have gone to Repetier host that uses Slic3r I get lines instead of paste. I think it is just a matter of poor control.

XYZware and its slicer assume a fixed filament diameter and anyone who has been printing a while knows there is now such thing a filament can vary by as much as .1 from roll to roll. So if you assume a diameter of 1.75 but you actually have 1.8876 or similar then you will over extrude. Like wise if you actually have 1.6334 then you will obviously under extrude. Real slicing software allows you to input your actual measured diameter so it can take that into account when setting the feedrate per layer.

Well I tried printing it as well running on Rep Firmware and host and I got similar results..

Re: quality help.

the pic I showed in the initial post is pretty darn good if you ask me. I know it wasn't printed  on a davinci but it is something to shoot for. I think it has to do with extrusion rate not being calibrated correctly. the bad thing is we cant control that in the da-vinci software.
