I had this problem when I got my SD2. I eliminated it by adjusting two settings in RH:
1) Confirm your nozzle setting is correct. If you have a .4mm nozzle, you want this to be changed to .48mm to factor in about 20% for expansion.
2) Be sure your filament diameter is correct. Measure every new roll you get. Mine was set at 3mm instead of 1.75mm and my prints looked identical to yours.
To answer your initial question, no. This is far from the best an given Solidoodle can do. You just need to calibrate and tinker with it a bit
