Topic: Is this the best the S4 can do?

I'd like to think the Solidoodle 4 can do much better than this. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can/should try?
I'm new to this exciting world and am probably still missing a few things smile

I'm printing JustPLA uhm PLA at 180 - build bed at 100 for 1st layer and 80 for the rest.

And here's the model thingiverse /thing:600772

Re: Is this the best the S4 can do?

I had this problem when I got my SD2. I eliminated it by adjusting two settings in RH:
1) Confirm your nozzle setting is correct. If you have a .4mm nozzle, you want this to be changed to .48mm to factor in about 20% for expansion.
2) Be sure your filament diameter is correct. Measure every new roll you get. Mine was set at 3mm instead of 1.75mm and my prints looked identical to yours.

To answer your initial question, no. This is far from the best an given Solidoodle can do. You just need to calibrate and tinker with it a bit smile

Printit Mason and Printit Horizon printers
Multiple SD2s- Bulldog XL, E3D v5/v6/Lite6, Volcano, Hobb Goblin, Titan, .9 motor, Lawsy carriages, direct Y drive, fishing line...the list goes on
Filawinder and Filastruder #1870.....worth every penny!

Your SD4 should print MUCH better than that! Mine certainly does!

It looks like you're seriously under-extruding.

Make certain you've done the calibration steps.

I wouldn't mind getting a hint as to what I should be looking at. I think I tried just about anything I could thing of... (I feel like such a n00b and I love it smile)

No worries; we've all been there.  Start here: http://www.soliwiki.com/

Go about halfway down to the 'Calibration' section, and start with that.  The SD4 is a good printer, and I feel that I've got mine dialed in nicely!

This forum is a great resource, so don't be afraid to ask questions.
