Topic: Perimeters with horizontal waviness for the first layers.

Hi,

Does anybody know why this might happen? I have a Solidoodle 2, a 3 and a 4 and lately I started getting this awful sheeplike curvy lines on all my prints. I am using Repetier v1.0.5 with the same settings that I've been using up until the curviness started happening. I am using different filaments too, Makerbot, Color Fabb, Faberdashery etc. all with their proper extruding temperatures. For my settings I have a 0.3 layer height, 2 perimeters with 2 tops and 2 bottoms with 30% infill.

I haven't changed anything from my previous setup, except that I added new printers. I also tried printing with just one printer plugged in, in case there might have been a power plug pulsating error or something like that, but no, I still got the curviness.

I also want to mention that the printers are calibrated and there are no other problems with them.

Also, since I updated my Repetier version to the new one, I thought it might be that so I used and older version and I still got the same problem. I also tried printing with Cura and I still got the same waves. I am just about to start freaking out on the printers since I just don't understand what might cause this problem...

Either you have a loose teflon block, or belt tension is off....if it is a mechanical issue, that is my guess.

I too have been seeing poorer quality with RH 1.0.5. The fact that you have 3 printers all of a sudden showning the same issue leads me to believe it is RH. Case in point- I have presets for support and after updating to 1.0.5, it would print a tiny raft, then elevate the print .4mm and begin printing over air. Your post confirms my theory new new version is flawed.

I have no problem with having to use a raft (even though I would prefer not to use one at all). But one of my prints needs to have the flawless smooth finish that only printing PLA on glass can give (I am using it for a headset for smartphones, so I can't have complaints about scratches on the phones because that one plate is not 100% smooth).

I don't think it might be a mechanical problem, certainly not a loose teflon block. Since I had the same waves with Cura (and also with an older version of RH too) I will check the belt tension and see if there's anything wrong 'mechanically'.

sad( It's just so frustrating to have weird prints all of a sudden after you had no problems whatsoever up until that point....

You may have a voltage issue if three printers are all having the same problem.
Has there been any new construction in your area?  I would start by adjusting the VREF for your extruder drivers.  Considering the poor quality of the SD PSU it wouldn't suprised me that it couldn't cope with a voltage change on the supply side.
