Topic: Newbie help, please! SD 3

Ok, so I've done everything I could read about. I've calibrated the extruder, leveled the bed, adjusted the rails and belts, tightened just about everything I could find info on. But my prints are terrible. I've tried different batches of ABS (one freshly opened from an air tight package with a dehumidifier packet included), I've adjusted the temps a bit and just can't seem to find a happy place.
These two that are pictured were printed with the extruder temp at 200 and the bed at 95.

So you guys that have been doing this for a while, what's the first thing that pops into your mind when you see these prints?? Believe it or not, these are the best that's come out of this thing so far and they just crumble when I bend them.

ANY info appreciated. TIA

Draw up a square about 20 x 20 mm's with a height of about 1 mm.  Run your temp at 205  then post that picture.

Ok, will do. Gonna need a few to figure out how to do that first though.

Thanks!

Strikingly resembles my first prints.
Go to Slic3r and check your filament diameter settings. It should match the filament you are currently using. My filament setting was at 3.0 when I was using 1.82 give or take (going off a terrible memory).
Make sure you have properly leveled your bed and calibrated your Z tab. The bottom of your prints look like they need further Z loving. You want the first layer to be a thick flat ribbonlike extrusion.

Measure your filament with a digital caliper in several places, and use the average for the filament diameter.  Set it to print with 1 perimeter and 0 infill, and stop it before it makes the top, then measure the thickness of the walls in just the first few top layers.

If you don't have a digital caliper, go to Harbor Freight tomorrow and get one, it is an essential tool for 3D printing.  They have a store near you.

Re: Newbie help, please! SD 3

I'll mess with the Z a little more.

I checked my filament setting and it was only at 1.68. I changed that to the actual diameter of my filament which is 1.78.

Thanks.

Oh, cool. Thanks! That just saved me some time. And I'm glad you mentioned "average". I just took one measurement.

And I couldn't make it a day without my calipers wink

I found where to set the perimeter to 1, but the setting for the infill isn't as easy to spot. Is density the one I want to set to 0? (that doesn't sound right), or something else?

Re: Newbie help, please! SD 3

Well, that cube has very thick walls (unless I missed something in the settings), so I'm gonna pack it in for tonight and try again tomorrow evening after I find some decent 3D modeling software.

Thanks for the help guys.

Yes density should be set to zero.

Thanks for the help guys.

Make sure your selecting the saved profile in R-H.  How thick are the walls?  They should be real close to .48

"R-H"?

Thanks.

Seemed like the walls were about 6mm.
