Topic: E3D Grub Screw Keeps loosening

I have an E3Dv5 and it seems that the grub screw does not hold the hot end heating element in very well. Seems I have to retighten it once a week or sometimes more, and even more lately. I do have my wires tied down so I don't think it's pulling on it too much.

I am thinking after the 25th time I have retigthened it, that the grub screw is starting to strip and it is coming lose even faster. Anyone know where I can get a replacement grub screw or what size a replacment needs to be?

Re: E3D Grub Screw Keeps loosening

I can send a replacement screw.

You might look into a dab of Loctite, though this isn't a common issue so I'm guessing it isn't being tightened enough.

If I screw it any harder it starts stripping. But maybe I can just try Loctite on the one I have?

Re: E3D Grub Screw Keeps loosening

It sounds like you're using the wrong size hex, or you didn't fully insert the included hex driver initially which caused it to slip. Once it starts slipping, game over.

Re: E3D Grub Screw Keeps loosening

I am using the hex that came with the E3D, and the only one I have used on it. Ok. You have all those E3D spare parts on your site but I don't see the screws. Just in case I'll order a couple haha.

Re: E3D Grub Screw Keeps loosening

I linked to the fixings bag above, it has everything that came in the little baggie (set screw, hex wrench, 4x fan screws)

Re: E3D Grub Screw Keeps loosening

I figured I'll report back that the new grub screw fixed this problem. I had no further problems.
