Topic: Nozzle Fan question

Ok I have an E3Dv5 setup on a MK5. I like printing in PLA so I hear a nozzle fan is good. How I wired my E3D fan was off a seperate power source so that fan is on always. Can I run a nozzle fan off that same power source or does the fan have to be gcode controlled? I am trying to not slice open my wires because, I'm just not good with wiring (ask wardjr hehe)

I have a 12volt seperate power source, and an extra 30 mm fan and red and black wires (I have some red snap connectors which I haveno idea how to use though lol). I presume somewhere on thingaverse there is a mount for a E3Dv5 with an extra 30mm nozzle fan.

Re: Nozzle Fan question

There most certainly are fan mounts smile
http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:152853 works perfectly with the MK5 and E3D.

Unfortunately, you will need to add to the board in order to use a gcode controlled fan. On your Sang, I am unsure if this is possible, but you can certainly ask wardjr and he would know right off the top.
Since you print PLA exclusively, I would say just keep the fan on at all times and nuts to the gcode. If you don't have one already, you should get a splitter of some kind to go from the extra power supply, then you can add all the fans you want without tapping into any existing lines.

Re: Nozzle Fan question

Well I don't print in just PLA, but I could just unplug the "always on" nozzle fan if I am printing in ABS. Well I could try it and see what happens. Plus since I have an extra 30mm fan, maybe it won't be so much a problem it's always on since it's a 30mm fan (not that I couldn't easly get a 40mm fan)

Re: Nozzle Fan question

I was checking out the design of the mount you linked. Looks like a nice design. I'll guess i'll be stopping at radio shack on the way home for a 40 mm fan hehe.

Re: Nozzle Fan question

With ABS you won't want that fan "Always On" so just unplug it.

Re: Nozzle Fan question

That's what I do. I ran a 3 pin extension and zip tied it to my existing wires. When I want to change the fan or whatnot, I just disconnect from the connection.

Re: Nozzle Fan question

Wiring and physics are my arch nemesis! But software, programming etc are just fine by me LOL

I suppose if I need it unplugged for ABS, I need to look for a mount that allows the E3D fan and a seperate nozzle fan (probably on thingaverse somewhere i'll have to look). The one linked has one 40mm fan for both.
