Topic: Random Slic3r Errors

I have encountered this in the past but its getting much more frequent.... Slic3r throws out errors when trying to slice things at .1mm , but the very same object will slice just fine at .2 or .3.  sometimes it can be sidestepped by using slic3r as a standalone app, but other time it persists. ive also downloaded netfab studio to "fix" the stl but it still dosent slice at .1

here is the error i get in rhost:

16:52:25.160 : <Slic3r> Error in function from_SV_check at src\Polygon.cpp:134: Not a valid Slic3r::Polygon object

any one know why this is ?

Re: Random Slic3r Errors

I've encountered the exact same problem just a few days ago.
Did you find a resolution for it?

I'm slicing this bottom part http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:219362/#comments after I've run it through netfabb for repairs.

Re: Random Slic3r Errors

Fairly new to 3d printing (only got my first printer -SD4- a month ago) but I have abandoned SLIC3R for this reason.  Some models it prints fine - others it adds weird geometries not present in the STL.  Seems like it may have some bugs in it's STL interpretation.  In all cases, Skeinforge was able to print the object properly so I'm sticking with it although there are some aspects of it I don't like (or haven't figure out how to tune properly).  If anyone debugging this wants another example, the following STL adds a weird ledge at the hook/sphere interface when sliced with SLICER laying flat on the bed with supports.

Re: Random Slic3r Errors

I downloaded and sliced this with Slic3r and I have no problems.  I think it may be related to the slicing settings, perhaps you could tell us what settings you used to slice it with.

BTW, I'm using Slic3r 1.0.0RC3 here, but I'm sure newer versions would do it too.

HI Daniel,

What version of Slic3r are you using, and what settings are you using to slice this with.

I sliced the part in question without repairing it first, and the result is below.  Now errors, warnings or anything of the sort.  Here is the output info as well.

09:50:39.498 : <Slic3r> => Processing triangulated mesh
09:50:40.393 : <Slic3r> => Generating perimeters
09:50:50.019 : <Slic3r> => Detecting solid surfaces
09:50:50.724 : <Slic3r> => Preparing infill surfaces
09:50:50.734 : <Slic3r> => Detect bridges
09:50:50.807 : <Slic3r> => Generating horizontal shells
09:50:51.044 : <Slic3r> => Combining infill
09:50:51.044 : <Slic3r> => Infilling layers
09:50:52.767 : <Slic3r> => Generating support material
09:50:52.768 : <Slic3r> => Generating skirt
09:50:52.772 : <Slic3r> => Exporting G-code to C:\Users\Chris P\AppData\Local\RepetierHost\composition.gcode
09:51:18.284 : <Slic3r> Done. Process took 0 minutes and 38.786 seconds

BTW, you can easily fix the error on this part by opening up the part in NetFabb basic, select repair part, then manually click on Action/Stitch Triangles.  Don't bother with Automatic repair.
