With the stock Solidoodle hot end, 180 seems to work well for me.

I do 170-180. I experiment. And while I still have my stock featues, I have not noticed much (if any) difference between the temps.
But for printing PLA, you will want a 40mm fan for the hot end. If you are impatient or it is not an option, you can use a simple desk fan, which is what I used to print my fan mount since I print PLA exclusively. PLA takes longer to cool than ABS, so depending on the size of the print or if you have a case built, it is crucial to have a fan while printing PLA.

I AM, however, still finding my niche with PLA filaments. I've tried JustPLA (don't recommend), and Makerbot which has worked best for me. That being said, what brand did you get?

Printit Mason and Printit Horizon printers
Multiple SD2s- Bulldog XL, E3D v5/v6/Lite6, Volcano, Hobb Goblin, Titan, .9 motor, Lawsy carriages, direct Y drive, fishing line...the list goes on
