Topic: stumped with PLA

My Solidoodle 2 pro model runs ABS all day long. I got some PLA food Christmas and it runs OK. I am running it at 185-190C bed temp at 70C. It runs great on nice big geometry but on small geometry it seems like I am not getting enough flow. So I upped my extruder multiplyer back up to 1. Does the trick on small geometry. However large geometry suffers the material starts bulging up and out. I can't seem to find a happy medium. Oh and this is at .100 mm layers. Any thoughts would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Re: stumped with PLA

Printing .1mm layers takes a lot of calibration, however you are on the right track adjusting your extrusion multiplier.  I would do the following calibration http://solidoodletips.wordpress.com/201 … flow-rate/ and see if your small prints really aren't overextruding.

Re: stumped with PLA

.7 is what my multiplier is at but I have a sd3. Is your filament diameter size correct? May have to mess with the other settings like extrusion width. Mine seems happy with .45mm. Also I'm having better luck running 180c-185c.

Re: stumped with PLA

Yeah filament diameter is correct. I have not run a box in PLA yet to check extrusion width. Thanks I was leaning that direction.

Re: stumped with PLA

"Not enough flow" = at beginning of perimeters, or consistent? If former, perhaps play with retraction settings?
