Topic: Printed parts not fitting

I'm sure there is an easy explanation for this, but if I print a project that has parts that need to be fitted together perfectly (every project) I'm finding that they do not fit. I'm sure there is an explanation for this or I'm not doing something correctly, but it's driving me nuts. For example, if I print Lawsy's filament guide: thing:31317, the filament valve is just a bit too big to fit into the valve support. I'm finding this on every project I do. Is there a trick to scaling specific parts or a setting I'm not aware of to have these parts print correctly? Or is it simply something where you have to print it to get the scale correct the second time which seems silly.

You are likely over-extruding a bit which will cause the parts to be slightly to big.

Thanks for the reply. Is it the flow rate/speed in Slic3r that needs to be adjusted? Where/what would be the proper settings? Mine are pretty stock from what SD recommends. Reading up on some of the links, it looks like the extrusion multiplier in Slic3r needs to be adjusted. I'll try that first.

It is adjustable within the filament section of Slic3r as an "extrusion multiplier".  The other option (definately do this one if you haven't yet!) is to calibrate your extruder steps per millimeter.  Instructions can be found on the wiki.

This is a pretty good test to get your printer making objects that come out the size that you would expect.

SD3 w/ mods:
Glass bed with QU-BD heat pad upgrade, threadless ballscrew w/ 8mm smooth rod, spectra line belt replacement, lawsy MK5 extruder, Lawsy replacement carriage, E3D hotend, Ramps 1.4 w/ reprap discount controller, DRV8825 drivers, 12v 30A PS, Acrylic case, Overkill Y-idlers, Filament alarm, Extruder fan + more.
