Topic: Glass Plate --> Super glue --> painters tape -->platform

Simple way to attach glass bed without clips... hear me out...  super glue! 

1) lay down some painters tape on your bed in an x pattern, corners to corners
2) put single drops of super glue on the bottom of your glass, the four corners and the center
3) place your glass

if you have to take it off, peel the painters tape with it or, if you used little enough glue, the glass might just pop off the tape.

The main reason I did this was to keep my print area as large as possible without the chance of the extruder running over the clips, potentially damaging it, or getting caught.

I have been running strong with this method for over two months now, no ill effects...

As per the other 2 threads you've posted this into:

What temp you run the bed at, or what super glue specifically did you use ?
Unless its the specifically marked high temp stuff - then that is very unusual to last that long.. 'standard' cyanoacrylate is only good to 80°C and will fail at that temp.... only the newer high-temp special stuff is rated higher..

But glad to hear its worked out ok so far! smile - anyone else who has used superglue has had it fail after a period of time for the reasons I just outlined.

hmm.. I have not had any issues heating bed to 100C  .  My superglue is nothing special, picked it up at Target...  "Duro" brand...

my glass does have a slight texture on the base... perhaps that is the reason for better stick?

Its not the glass - its the chemistry of Cyanoacrylate. In standard form it has a service temp of -50°C to 80°C..  That means, at temps above 80°C it is outside its bond specs.  Ethyl-2 Cyanoacrylate is what you call 'super glue'....

Checking the MSDS for Duro, it is bog stock Ethyl-2  Cyanoacrylate... http://hpd.nlm.nih.gov/cgi-bin/househol … d=13010011

There is newer formulas that include additional additives to boost that service temp to 125°C (usually) - but it is not what Duro is made of according to its MSDS...

So if its staying bonded at temps >80°C - don't loose that tube of glue - its super super-glue smile

EDIT: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethyl_cyanoacrylate <- lists the service temp as -54°C to 82°C.. so I wasn't far off smile

Anyway - despite your personal success - this is why its not recommended by the vast majority of people - It works for a while, but it will fail - probably with more tangential forces yours would have most likely failed by now already too - A good solid knock to the glass when its warm for example....

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind! 

Perhaps I'll do some tests, but now I don't want to remove the glass if this is just dumb luck!

I will look into high heat glue for future use!

I've said it before and I will say it again.  Leave the Kapton on the platform then spray the underside of your glass with the same hairspray you put on the top side.  Put the glass on your platform and heat it up.  No clips, perfectly level glass and it sticks well enough to not move and is still easy enough to remove.  And no I don't have to respray every time I remove it.
I run my bed at 108 and everything seems happy.

Not sure how I missed this but this is an awesome idea!  Can't wait to try it out

It seems as though a lot of people have missed it.  Every time I read a thread about glass clips or the like I try to toss it out there.  It makes things so much easier.  You may need to use a razor blade to gently pry (less pry and more slip in between) the glass from the bed the first time you have to remove it.  After that it just pulls off by grabbing the print itself.  Even if it doesn't seem like it isn't sticking that well (it will once it heats up) I have never had my glass move during a print.
