Topic: robohand file not slicing and eiffel tower crashing repetier

Hey guys,

I just got my solidoodle 2 and have successfully printed twelve items thus far including a mayan calendar scaled to 2x that I printed this morning and then two other items as well.  I just tried to do an eiffel tower (thing:124990) and it crashed while being sliced and will not complete.  I believe the error is related to running out of memory.

Also I just finished trying to do the robohand bridges and it tried to create the slices for 80 minutes and the project ran for 2 seconds and said it was completed.

What could be causing this?  I really would like to be able to print these items so I'm going to keep trying but if anyone has a solution I would appreciate it.

Re: robohand file not slicing and eiffel tower crashing repetier

Can the solidoodle handle printing the eiffel tower and the robo hand?  If it is capable, what would cause it to have issues when trying to slice these files?

Re: robohand file not slicing and eiffel tower crashing repetier

Could just be slic3r. What version are you using? Could try kisslicer or alternative.

Re: robohand file not slicing and eiffel tower crashing repetier

I don't see anything about your slicer settings.... or the computer hardware/sw if you are slicing at high layer count it could be a problem also depending on what os you are running and the resources devoted to it and what is set for allocation to slicer.

EDIT: I have sliced the Eiffel tower as have others, while I haven't had the need to print the hand I have seen several people slice it just fine with slicer.

where do I change those settings?  I am new so forgive me ignorance on these things.

Re: robohand file not slicing and eiffel tower crashing repetier

Ok so now that I know it's possible I just need to figure out what is causing the issue locally to my pc.  There would be no point in trying if noone else could do it either right.

Re: robohand file not slicing and eiffel tower crashing repetier

The only other thing as reference is a message from slic3r:

"19:10:43.058 : <Slic3r> Warning: The input file contains a hole near edge 31.244480,57.059753,0.000000-35.830261,59.645569,0.000003 (not manifold). You might want to repair it and retry, or to check the resulting G-code before printing anyway.

Re: robohand file not slicing and eiffel tower crashing repetier

As a troubleshooting excercise I tried to re-slice an object that I have already printed and it sliced just fine.  So it seems that more complicated objects are failing to slice on my PC.  I have a 2010 based iMac which is an i5 dual core with 4GB ram installed.  Are these specs not powerful enough to slice more complicated objects?

Re: robohand file not slicing and eiffel tower crashing repetier

The message is telling you there is an error with the STL file. It has nothing to do with your printer or computer.

http://cloud.netfabb.com

Upload the STL here and put in your email address. It will fix the file an send you a link to download.

Thanks lawsy,  I actually did that and just saw that the print came out successfully.
