Topic: PEEK melting

I run my solidoodle 3 at 200 degrees in repetier host (which i believe means that the hot end is about 170 degrees). 

my problem is that my PEEK insulator keeps melting.   Is this a part that is just supposed to melt after a while? or is solidoodle selling me crap parts?  I have tried lowering the extrusion temp, but if i get much lower than 200 then the filament wont melt.

I am extremely exasperated and ready to kill my printer with fire!!! lol  any help is extremely appreciated.


PS - if there is an after market hot end that doesn't have this problem i would love to hear about it.

I've heard it's not safe to go above 210 in Repetier Host, so I am surprised that you are having problems at those temps.  The actual temperature of the hot end is about 20 degrees higher, so if it says 200 in RH, the actual temperature at the tip is 220 degrees.  I believe that Solidoodle sells replacement PEEK on their website, but if I were you, I would take elmoret's suggestion.  The E3D hot end has no PEEK (all metal), can reach much higher temperatures, and rarely clogs.  Just make sure you have Lawsys  MK5 (or 4 with an adapter) and an extended z-stop first.

How do you know the PEEK is melting?  Are you removing the barrel to check?  Or perhaps the barrel wiggles in the PEEK?

I melted my PEEK, but not from printing, but rather clearing clogs.  I have had zero clogs since moving to an E3D.

sorry to bug you guys with so many questions.  I tried searching in the forums and couldnt really find what im looking for.

You want the 1.75mm direct extrusion.

is there a wiki or walkthrough on all the steps i should take with my e3d installation?  i swear i found one a little bit ago, but i cant find a link to it on this forum or through google.

can anyone point me in the right direction?

I keep getting my max temp reached and the printer resets.  I found this code on the forum, is it correct to fix this problem?
