Topic: Blobbing at the start of a new line

I guess my first question is: Is this a normal thing to expect?

If it's not, how do I get rid of it?

I've been messing around with retraction settings. Even tried -0.3 on extra length at restart. Nothing seems to be helping that much. Extrusion and feed rate has been calibrated. Any help would be great. Thanks!

Re: Blobbing at the start of a new line

I believe the answer to this is in the extruder stepper.  The stock extruder is 1/16 step.  If changed to 1/32 it will almost completely resolve this issue.

I would suggest a search for this topic.

http://www.soliforum.com/post/33374/#p33374 deals a little with the topic, but there are other threads that may be more helpful.

It looks like it overshoots a little bit as it turns the corner.  Try slowing down the speed for external perimeters and see if that helps.

What values have you tried for retraction? When I was using the stock hotend, some filaments required almost 2mm of retraction to stop the blobbing. The other thing that helped was adjusting the temps lower by 2-3C. YMMV

SD3 w/ mods:
Glass bed with QU-BD heat pad upgrade, threadless ballscrew w/ 8mm smooth rod, spectra line belt replacement, lawsy MK5 extruder, Lawsy replacement carriage, E3D hotend, Ramps 1.4 w/ reprap discount controller, DRV8825 drivers, 12v 30A PS, Acrylic case, Overkill Y-idlers, Filament alarm, Extruder fan + more.

Re: Blobbing at the start of a new line

Thanks for the suggestions. I would try changing the stepper driver, but the new board has everything soldered down. It would be no easy switch. Slowing the perimeters has helped a little.

I went higher on the extraction length, but it seems like the blob starts at the beginning of a new line, not at the end where the retraction would help. I'll try lowering the temperature a bit. That makes a lot of sense also.
