Topic: Anyone know what I might be doing wrong

I have tried calibrating and leveling like crazy...anyone know what I might do to fix this?

Could you give us a little more info on your current settings and type of filament, temps involved, speeds and such screenshots of your settings pages are always great smile

Re: Anyone know what I might be doing wrong

It'd be easier to diagnose if the base layer didn't look so good.  Did you change your layer height to higher than .3 by mistake?  It looks like it's not bonding to the layer below which is why ronsii is thinking temps and speed, but that should also have affected the layer below unless you had a different speed setting for your base layer.

More information is needed.

That second layer looks like it is starting to get burnt and clumpy. By chance are you using ABS temp settings with PLA filament?

Oh, and +1 on the settings. More details please.

I have gone back to calibrating. I will try that print later and send screen shots of settings...thanks for the help so far...

After calibration, I ran the part again...same results. I am a newb, so please be easy on me...

Re: Anyone know what I might be doing wrong

Can you tell us if your filament is stripping even a little bit while it does this?  You should be able to hear it while it is stripping.
I have had this happen on my machine and the cause was the barrel not being tight enough in the peek.  The plastic would build up in between the joint and restrict the new filament from being able to extrude properly.  I also ended up with what looked like burnt plastic coming out which in my case also caused a partially clogged nozzle.

Thanks to all for your contributions

I do not believe the filament is stripping. I am using the filament supplied by solidoodle...

Re: Anyone know what I might be doing wrong

Have you tried an extruder calibration?  Seems like not enough plastic is flowing to bond with the bottom layer.

Good luck!

+1 it needs to be calibrated and it only takes a few minutes.
Verify that it isn't stripping I had the most trouble with that exact white filament from Solidoodle and could show you many examples of mine that looked Identical to your pictures.  If you are getting any white dust or shavings on the drive or bearing you are dealing with some form of clogging.  Since I switched over to the E3d hot end I have been able to use that white filament again without any problems.
