Topic: Anyone making a "Heat Box" to store filament?

I had a vision today of making a heated box behind my Doodle with shelves and a pipe to feed my filament into the doodle.

Basically i would have several shelves to store spare filaments and have a station with a large spool and small spool holder to feed filament through a hole in the front.

The only reason I am thinking of doing this is I have some nylon on the way and I have heard of problems printing with moist nylon.

What do you think I should consider for the heating element?

I'll post a sketch up when I get time.

Search for "golden rod" . I have a big Tupperware container that I keep my filament with the golden rod. it keeps it dry and might work for what you were thinking.

SD3 w/ mods:
Glass bed with QU-BD heat pad upgrade, threadless ballscrew w/ 8mm smooth rod, spectra line belt replacement, lawsy MK5 extruder, Lawsy replacement carriage, E3D hotend, Ramps 1.4 w/ reprap discount controller, DRV8825 drivers, 12v 30A PS, Acrylic case, Overkill Y-idlers, Filament alarm, Extruder fan + more.

That looks like it will work pretty good. I suppose I could just do my initial dry in the oven and store the filament in something like that.

I have had plans for the last six months to get around making a little arduino controlled unit... They have a lot of humidity sensors that could turn the heaters on and off in the box depending on humidity. Then feeding the filament through a piece of styrofoam,  we could have it go direct to the solidoodle.  But it's always on the bottom of my task list hmm

You might like something like this - http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:34300

It's a guide for running filament from a bunch of spools set up under the desk.

I have a ton of space under the desk.... The gears are a turning.

Re: Anyone making a "Heat Box" to store filament?

i have a 60w light bulb in a 52L plastic storage box with 2 kg of rice in the bottom and i still have moist filament damn living too close to Antarctica sucks.

the box stays at a constant 25 degrees C

do you think the dehumidifier rod would be up to that task? if so can you get them in 240v versions?

This is intended for water soluble filament but you could probably incorporate it, or components of it.
