Topic: SD2 extruder doesn't get hot

Hi.
I have a problem with my Solidoodle 2.
After working perfectly well for two months,
now the extruder doesn't get hot.
The trouble happened when I was just printing a model.
SD2 worked fine for a couple of hours, but suddenly
the temperature of the extruder started to go down.
The nozzle stopped extruding because of the low temperature,
leaving the bottom half of the model on the platform.
After that, the extruder never heats itself.
I tried again and again after rebooting my PC and also SD2,
but the extruder never becomes hot.
The platform gets hot, but not the extruder.

The heater of the extruder may be broken.
But I used my SD2 only for two months.
Does the extruder easily be broken?

Can anybody give me any advice?

The extruder heater could be burned out... this is a common thing on all 3d printers... do you have any experience in electronics or a volt meter? it also could be just a loose wire connection either at the plug on the print head or where the wires attach to the mainboard.

Thank you for your advice.
Yes, I checked the connectors if it is a problem of loose wires,
but nothing changed.

I read the linked document.
It was very helpful.

I have 12V on the main circuit board.

But not on the red plug of the extruder.

Is this the cause of my problem?
It should be 12V, too?
The red plug of the extruder is the input of the heater, isn't it?

The resistance between the two pins of the red plug of the extruder was 7.3 ohms.
So the heater is alive?

yeah, you need a couple more posts before it will let you post links/photo links

if you got 7 oihms on the heater plug it should be good.

also if you have 12v at the main board out to the extruder heater you should also have it at the red plug... they use IDC (insulation displacement connectors) connectors so you may have to reseat the connectors where they bite through the insulation to get to the wire....or make sure that the wire didn't get burned off underneath the plastic and stretched away from the IDC part.
