Topic: X Axis Slant after 10mm or so

Every time I print, I'm getting slant on the X axis after about 10mm in height.

It's always a slant to the left, and the slant stops again after 5mm or so. At this point the print continues as expected, but about 1mm total over to the left.

I've made sure all my belts are tightened, but I figure because it seems to be dependent on the height it must have something to do with the Z axis, right?

I've attached an example of the issue.

Any ideas?

After talking with the support guys, I've made sure the stepper drivers are at correct voltages and not overheating (cooled with a fan). The issue pesists.

I've also tried using the Z-Nuthugger from Thingiverse with a 5/16-18 bolt to no avail.

Perhaps your x rods need to be perpendicular to your z rods. Easier said than done. Then bed needs to be on same plane as nozzle. In that order. May need to get creative with your adjustments.

Would this explain the type of slant I'm seeing? The first layers are perfect and after the slant the layers are perfectly aligned. It's just a section of about 10mm that experiences the slant.

If the rods aren't already perpendicular, is that something I can even fix? The holes for the rods are built into the frame.

The perpendicularness of the Z to X can be controlled by adjusting the white bearing blocks on the right end of the Y carriage, adjust the top one to set the angle then bring the bottom one up until just about touching the rod... check full travel of the rod for binding once set.

but since your slant comes and goes I don't think this will cure it....

Thanks. I've adjusted the blocks (just in case) and will run a print now, then post back with the results.

Loosening the screws holding the wooden block that contains the Z-Axis nut has helped somewhat, but not completely.

Could it be the Z rod isn't straight and is moving the bed?

Probably not IMO. You have a fan on your controller? Also, what happens if you print something else? Can you find something on thingiverse and print it? Might help to narrow down the issue.

Everything I print suffers the same slant at the same height.

Support suggested a fan on the board, but that didn't change anything when I tried.

With a slant in the same spot/length/direction every time I would suspect that something is bent or otherwise not straight... have you tried rotating the z rods either one at a time or both together about their z-axis 90 or 180 degrees... might help if not it eliminates one possible cause smile

Also mark the rods with a sharpie on the end so you can keep track of their orientation and also see if they may be moving/rotating as the bed moves.

I'm with ronsii on this one, bent z rod? Should almost be able to see this much wobble.

It also might explain the creaking sound I get when I home the Z axis.

I haven't had a chance to play around with it yet, but I'll post back as soon as I have.

I needed to print something quickly and turned the left rod a little bit (randomly).

The slant is seems to be much less severe now, so it looks like this is the right path to go down. Gonna do some calibration shapes when I can and see if I can't reduce it even less.

I'll post back with results when I've got them.
