Topic: All Metal Hot-end

This looks like a job for someone else. lol.

http://www.scribd.com/doc/149560103/E3D … bly-Manual

I ordered this hot-end thinking it would be more durable than the Solidoodle one, but they sell it to me in parts. I don't have the tools to complete putting it together. Is there anyone I could hire to do this properly because apparently it is too much of a bother for those who made it to actually put it together?

Re: All Metal Hot-end

You are hilarious. Nice double post, too.

Can't wait for Adrian to show up.

Re: All Metal Hot-end

Rocketman,
The order page clearly states "At this time we are only shipping DIY kits"

Judging by the instructions, you'll need pliers, kapton tape (probably 1/4" width) and an adjustable wrench.  All the rest of the instruction just require that you assemble by hand.  Looks like the kit even comes with couple of a hex wrenches for the screws.

Edit:
Looks like you'll also need to crimp connectors on to the ends and ensure that identical connectors are on the Solidoodle Heater.  The fan will need to be powered as well, or you'll end up melting down the x-axis carriage.  Can't help you with that one...

cckens - they even include kapton, at least they did in my e3d.

I, for one, am speechless ...

My last one came with the crimp connectors as well... the only thing it did not come with was a tiny piece of aluminum foil or some fire clay and you really don't need the fire clay as the foil works great smile They are very!!! simple to put together with a minimum of tools (pliers) and hex drivers to work on the SD.

Re: All Metal Hot-end

I waqs thinkin about ordering one of these tomorrow, md SD3 is pretty much stock with the "new" printrboard

I know there supposedly support for the extra fan (gcode enabled?) no information on how to actually do it.

how does the E3D connect to the SD, through the original connections?

Re: All Metal Hot-end

Most are just wiring the fan directly to the 12v wires. The DIY kit is very simple to put together.

There's a whole other thread on the E3D.

E3D-v4 Hotend, MK5 carriage with round plastic wire conduit , 3/16" tempered glass,  Well nut, SureStepr SD8825 1/32 Extruder Driver, PowerEdge 2650 500W PS, QU-BD heated bed, circuit board fan, hinged plexiglass enclosure with plastic tray top. Other than that mostly stock SD3

Re: All Metal Hot-end

ha I can't  order the E3D until Solidoodle let's us play with the firmware ... I'll have to redefine the temp sensor and the max temp for the extruder!!  I'm stuck with the stock hotend and I'm kinda pissed about that

Re: All Metal Hot-end

How does it even attach to the Solidoodle? It looks far too wide to fit. And if there is a 3rd set of wires (hot-end, thermistor, and fan) how do I connect all of those if I only have a hot-end and thermistor wire?

Re: All Metal Hot-end

You are supplied with everything for the hotend and connections - but you will need either lawsy mk4 or mk5 extruder assembly though to mount it though.

http://www.soliforum.com/topic/2584/got … nted-pics/ if you read the thread everything is covered at one stage or another.. smile

Re: All Metal Hot-end

Just so no one stuffs up, the little fan with this hot end must be always. It is NOT a g-code controlled fan.

You could do a fix like they do on the UP printers, a workaround where you change the resistance at thr thermistor to 'fake' the printer into high/different temps.

Re: All Metal Hot-end

I shouldn't have to do tat i really don't understand why they won't just give us the information we need to do what we need/want to do.

Re: All Metal Hot-end

They've posted the firmware : http://www.solidoodle.com/solidoodle-mo … -firmware/

But, there still isn't any details on the bootloader. I'm lead to believe it runs the CDC or DFU bootloader, but it may run HalfKay.
However, given its a 'rev E' derivative like Spuds, I'd assume that you need to basically follow http://reprap.org/wiki/Printrboard instructions for loading firmware - making note of the need to attach a jumper to the BOOT pins and resetting the board to get it into bootloader mode.

Yes the lawsy firmware will work - but not just yet as I haven't tested it so don't risk it - i need to verify some pin assignments. So for now - download the solidoodle firmware from the above url, but make the same changes to their Configuration.h files for the thermistor and min/max temperature.

THANK YOUUUUUU!  i am going to go ahead and order it that E3D right NOW and some more fillament.  got 150 to spend today!

wanna make an educated guess as which boot loader to try first?
