Topic: J-Head not heating.

Was at a PDXLan party this weekend, so Have not had a chance to trouble shoot yet.  But the hot end stopped heating. Have to get a look at it when I get home. I think the resistor stopped resisting..... Time to get a heater cartridge big_smile

never heard of that.

And once home used a multimeter and the resistor is getting 6.4ohms like it should. reconnected and now able to heat again.  trying a print right now.

I just saw PDX and assumed you where in the same town (Portland). Should check it out.. full of people itching to tackle projects (its a local hackerspace)

yes in portland big_smile

Just never heard of Dorkbotpdx. may have to check it out big_smile

And after I posted that it seemed to be working, back to not working.  Resistor still shows resistance.  But it just wont heat up now.  Repeteir shows that it is trying to send the command just get nothing from the hot end. I checked for voltage at the resistor and nothing.

Turns out I have a broken wire or solder joint at the 4pin ATX header I use for my hotend and thermistor connection at the side of my extruder.  Work on it more tomarrow.

Re: J-Head not heating.

As expected started looking at the wires and found a wire broken right at the solder joint.  Going to just replace those thin OEM wires from the board to the hotend this weekend.

Re: J-Head not heating.

The nice thing about the heater cartridge is it comes with a nice long cord.  I ran mine all the way back to the board, so I don't need to worry about any bad connections.  If I need to take the hot end out, the cartridge stays behind.
